Suspension Decision
Okay, so I am ready to purchase a budget suspension upgrade for my 2005 g35 coupe. I am currently torn between the tein s-tech and h-tech springs and the tokico d-spec shocks. I have seen the springs for ~$205 and the shocks for ~$580 - are these good prices?
Will these work with my coupe?
Also, can someone please help me understand and elaborate on the differences between the tein springs?
Thanks,
Junya

you have like 800 you can almost get tein basics or megans for that price. i would get the basics personally... if you dont mine used you can get basics for as low as 500 or a norm of around 650 with low mileage.
but if you want springs, i have z htechs and i really like them.

I am not sure how much I'll be able to track the car as much as I'd like so I'm trying to stay away from coilovers. If the springs do essentially the same thing, then why not use those instead of the shocks or coilovers? Do they al provide different benefits?
coilovers let you adjust the ride height of your car, so if you want it lower or higher you can change it relatively easily where as with springs you would need to buy a whole new set. if you buy higher up coilovers (one's higher than the basics) you can also adjust the dampening which is very nice.
Basically coilovers will let you play around and find your perfect height and dampening so that you can get much closer to what you like in terms of ride height, handling, and dampening than springs. Like I said before, if you end up wanting to go lower, or stiffer/softer, etc with springs, the initial springs you bought are just going to be a loss of cash to you.
Now if you cant afford going straight to coilovers springs are a great option, but seeing as you were planning on doing struts as well, it puts you much closer to the budget of coilovers

From what I understand, the tokico shocks lower the car about 1.5" similar to the springs lowering the car about 1.5". Can anyone affirm or disprove this?
Also, I'm thinking of just going with the Tein S-Tech springs because they are a little more aggressive and I purely want to lower the car for cosmetic appearances with some performance gain. Is this correct?
If so, this seems to be the cheapest option.
Since I have settled on springs - for now - can anyone provide reccommendations between tein s-tech, eibach, and other spring sets?
Thanks,
Junya

Your car has the legit oem sport suspension.
G35 Tein S-tech and H-tech won't offer any performace increase other then the lowered center of gravity. Either setup's has only a fraction increase in front spring rate and a dramatic DECREASE in rear spring rate.
Your far better off if you want to a mild performance increase to go with 350Z S-tech's or 350Z H-techs and D-specs ment for the 350Z. The shocks alone will have Zero impact on ride height, though the 350Z specific D-specs do have slightly shorter rear shock length to give you a much needed bost in rear bump travel. Drop heights should be as follows
350Z S-tech on a G35 coupe -1.2"/-1.1"
350Z H-tech on a G35 coupe -.8"/-.7"
Theirs no such thing as a good cheap coilover, don't get sucked into that, all that garbage show's up on ebay and still doesn't sell for a reason. You have NOT spelled out any reason's that a good shock and spring setup won't meet your needs. Only sub $1000 coilover I would trust are Eibach Pro-S and maybe H&R.

You won't complain that D-specs and 350Z S-tech's have a too harsh ride quality even when set at full soft, which if you research the Tein Flex has been a frequent complaint.
Again, nothing you have mentioned or said give you any reason not to go with a good shock and spring setup.
But something tells me your going to end up being a fat customer for a not so informed, not so honest salesperson who will be VERY happy you called. Don't be a victim, don't be a victim of review's by people that don't know the real differance between something good and something bad. I can't tell you how many peole buy garbage, stuff that isn't close to meeting their needs, stuff that I wouldn't open the box to look at ever it is magically showed up at my door totally FREE. Before you do anything, please contat Adam at Z1auto or Z1performance is his member name on my350Z.com. He's honest and he'll give you a second opinion, even it it means something he doesn't sell.

I've actually been using the z1 website for parts and pricing!
I look forward to doing business with them, but thanks for the input and for the advice.
I'm not some kid with daddy's credit card and I want my ride to come out the way I want and I want to do the reseach. However the spiders that process search requests on the forums can be endless and misleading - at best. Thats why its sometimes better to just reach out to more experienced persons such as yourself.
I appreciate all the input thus far, and I am getting ever closer to making a final decision.
Keep the info coming!
