Question Painting brake calipers

I know everyone says to use high temp paint, but what if a body shop paints the calipers? Has anyone actually had a bad experience or know someone that did with this route? I know one guy who had his brakes painted with regular paint and he did not have problems.

Reason I ask, there are very few options for colors with caliper paint or high temp paint. But I can have the body shop paint them any tone I want and it'll come out really nice. I'm just worried about bubbling or flaking, but haven't seen any pics of this happening to people.

Thanks

That's also the most expensive option. I know powdercoating places in my area, it's not what I'm looking for.

Regular body paint will not withstand repeated high heat, it will either flake or bubble -- or worse, turn gummy and "melt" right into your rotor and pads. If your car is purely for show then it won't matter (i.e., barely using the brakes, if you do just for moving the car back/forth from a truck to showroom and the like).

For basic colors, caliper paint, header paint or any type of high heat paint are your best bets. For custom colors, powdercoat.

I had body shop paint my calipers recently... I had the same concern and talked with several people that drive very spirited (with modified cars)... none of them had any problems... I trust the shop I used to tell me if they ever saw issues and the answer was no.

I went ahead and painted - and will eventually track - so I guess I'll know then whether it was a good idea or not.

Most people will tell you its as much about prep and quality as it is type of paint.
