spring rate question

So I understand spring rates with regular springs and comparing higher versus lower rates to stock...

My question involves spring rates with coilovers. I commonly see these rates for the G at 10k front / 8k rear, or 10k/12k, etc. What does this mean and how do I compare this to our stock rates which are something like 314/427?
