HOW TO: Replace Brake Pads?

Hey guys, I'm not real tech savvy and just got a 2005 G35 Coupe. The brakes definitely need replaced, and I have never done it before. Anyone have a how to on how I do this? Thanks a lot.

this DIY is very detailed.

I actually don't do 90% of what's done in the vid but you can if you want.

This should help. It's relatively easy to do.

^Yea it does. It also shows how to remove the rotors, but most of the steps aren't necessary.

It's mostly just take off two bolts, slide off caliper, take off pads, compress the pistons, put new pads, and put the two bolts back on; but with more detail.

^ I've used this type of wrench/plier before, and compressed each piston one at a time.

^ There are two pistons in the front and one in the rear. It isn't all that hard (but I've been changing my own brakes for years now). Just look at the DIY and video above, and it should go pretty smooth.

The worst part will probably be removing the rear rotors if they have rusted on.

okay i was reading in another post or diy that there are two holes where you can stick the bolts from the caliper or somthing like that that will retract the rotor off of the hub also when i put the new drilled rotors in is there a bed in process for them or just slide em in and put the caliper on and put the wheel back with the lugs where do the rotors get tight in?

^ I haven't heard of using the bolts to take off the rotor. I would caution against using the caliper bolts (in case it snaps), I would use a screwdriver instead.

I've always just put the rotors on, put the calipers back on, put the wheels, and tighten the lugs to 85 foot lbs torque. Just remember to tighten each lug opposite of each other, so that they are evenly tightened.

Make sure that you take the brake fluid cap off when pushing the caliper piston back!

The wheel and the pads hold them in place, as well as the bracket/brace.

I use this little jewel to push the pistons back:

You can find one similar at any auto parts store. Just put an old pad over the piston and slip this tool in the caliper and twist away.
