Alignment off - need SPC Camber Kit?
Alignment off - need SPC Camber Kit?
I have a 04 Coupe 6mt at stock hight. I took it to get aligned the other day and the alignment is still off. The front left camber is -1.7 (specified range is -1.3 -.3) , rear left camber is -2.0 (specified range is -1.8 -0.8) and the rear left toe is .26 (specified range is 0.00 0.22). They said I would need a camber kit to fix this.
If I wanted to bring my car into the specified range would this kit work?

(SPC Front and Rear Combo, Part #: 72050 and 72125)
Sorry this is a basic question, but I searched and found conflicting answers.

I wouldn't think you would need to buy an aftermarket camber kit to repair a stock g35. Maybe take it to a different Nissan/Infiniti dealer and see what they say. A vehicle which is out of alignment indicates broken or worn suspension components which should probably be replaced, not band-aided.
Put it up on a lift, check for loose or bent rear suspension components if you don't want to take it to the dealer. Even a small amount of play can turn into a large amount of problem when you have of a 1/4 of a 3600 lb vehicle sitting on top of it.
Let us know what you find.

Okay, I'll take it to the Nissan dealer near me. Goodyear was the one that told me that it needed the camber kit but I don't think they deal with G35s very often.
I already have the kit, just waiting on SPC to send me the parts they forgot to put in the box... Where's a good place to have it installed? I don't have access to a lift.

You probably won't need the kit if the Nissan dealer finds something wrong with your rear suspension.
I would wait to see what the Nissan dealer says. Don't mention the camber kit quite yet. If they find the problem and fix it, you could return the camber kit. It would be of no use on your car at stock height unless you plan on racing the car with some really sticky tires.
If the Nissan dealer finds nothing wrong, then I suppose you could put the kit on to remedy the excessive camber. Most Nissan/Infiniti dealers will put that kind of stuff on for you. Check with the guys after you get your diagnosis.
I hope it works out bud. Let us know how it goes.

I went to Nissan yesterday and they wouldn't even look at it unless I got an alignment with them for $120. I made it pretty clear that I didn't want an alignment and I just wanted them to put it on a lift and look at the suspension but they didn't care. The closest Infiniti dealer is kinda far for me. Do you think I should have a non nissan/infiniti shop look at it?
It's not just the rear suspension thats off, it's the front too. Here's the alignment handout that Goodyear gave me.

Would frame damage cause something like this?

Looks like somebody hit a curb, large pothole, another car, or something with the driver's side of the car. Do you know if the car has ever been in a wreck? Have the wheels or any body panels ever been replaced?
To answer your question, yes, frame damage could have caused that, but it is more likely that suspension components are damaged. Frame is steel, suspension is all aluminum.
That really sucks that they won't look at it. I don't quite know what to tell you. It's up to you to call another shop, they may tell you the same thing the Goodyear guys did. You may have to just pony up and drop 120 bucks at the nissan dealership. It's up to you. I wish I had more advice.

I don't know because I bought it used. Two shops looked at it and both said they didn't see any evidence of a crash. Is it really obvious when a cars been in a wreck?
I'll call around next week. If I'm going to pay over 100 I might as well drive to Infiniti. How long do you think it should take them to inspect the suspension?

Yeah, it's pretty obvious most of the time.
The Infiniti dealer won't do any better than the Nissan dealer will in my experience. The only thing you'll get out of going to the Inifniti dealer is a latte and a sales guy with a suit and tie. Look up reviews and see which of the two dealers gets better reviews for quality work and go there. Just my two cents. I dunno about a timeframe. Ask them.

Where are you located? We do alignments and have the rear arms in stock if you do need them. But I have seen several cases of just factory cars being really off and needing arms to get them within spec.
I was just wondering about time because if it's only going to take them 15 minutes I don't want to spend $100. If they actually take the whole hour I wouldn't mind having Nissan do it and paying for the alignment.
I live a little outside of Sacramento but I already have the parts.
