Eibach Sportline Springs: Will I Need Shocks?
Eibach Sportline Springs: Will I Need Shocks?
Hi,
on impulse i bought a set of eibach sportline springs from a shop that was going out of business last year. i thought since the price is right ill sit on it until one of my springs break and ill have a replacement handy.
anyway, i bought some 18"wheels and tires and decided to put them on and lower the car, i think the drop is either 1 inch or 1.5
if i install the springs will i need a camber kit? also, my car is a 03 coupe brembo sport package. will i need to buy new shocks or will my stock ones hold up fine?
i appreciate any experienced input.
thank you.

Springs don't usually break, they just wear out and sag over time, but usually not until upwards of 90-100k miles. Anyway, assuming they are 350Z sportlines, yes you will need new shocks fairly soon, especially if the car has some miles on it. As for a camber kit, you can probably get away without it for a while if you can get an alignment that's relatively close to spec, but you will see some increased tire wear over time.
And the car came with 18" wheels from the factory - what happened to those?

as far as the 18" original i still have them. they are all banged up but still keep presssure so i will use them for winters.
if i change the original springs and put the sportlines, is it possible to switch them again if i dont like the way the sportlines feel?
thx!
With 110k miles, I'd say you definitely need new shocks.
Rears springs are very easy to swap. Fronts are not as easy and you need a spring compressor since they are concentric with the front shocks.

^ i think he means kilometres.
anyhow, i have a 04coupe with stock shocks and eibach pro kits. and the ride is a tad bouncy, i would recommend you get shocks. and i'm only at 75k km.
also the sportlines i think lower your car something like 1.7"

I put sportlines with my stock shocks and they blew within the first week.
I went the route of coil overs, the best I went..

Remember shocks just slow down the changes in spring position whether compression or expansion. Just a time partial diff equation problem. Expansion being 2-3 times stiffer than compression is the first to go and be noticeable.
Summer is the best time to replace since the hotter fluid will feel softer [less stiff] until the shock has broken in by Xmas.
