double the shocks
i know a lot of you guys are going to think this sounds ghetto. but its really not.
i cant afford coilovers. i just cant. its as simple as that. and i am saving as much as possible for a baby that is on the way. so dpecs arent an option either. so getting an agressive wheel setup that i would idealy like isnt possible either without hitting a bump and rubbing badly. so i started to think about how to go about stiffining up the suspension.
i am thinking about running 4 shocks total in the rear. i would be using the ones that go in the factory location. and then fabbing up brackets to run a second set. (not factory shocks but some other shocks that i already have) and then running those also. my idea is that double the shocks in the rear would help stiffin up, the up travel in the suspension. and i have fabricated shocks mounts several times for cars/trucks that are on air ride that dont have the option of running stock location shocks. so its not like i would be ghetto fabbing some bull**** mounts. it would be done the right way.
basically im just asking what you guys think about this and do you think double the shock in the back would help?

That is thinking outside of the box, but it isn't a good idea. The only vehicles where it is common to have more than one shock per corner are off road trucks. Unless you are planning on running your G35 in Baja, it just doesn't make sense. Shocks are about way more than stiffness as well, and why "upgrade" the rear and not the front?

the front doesnt rub even close to as bad as the rear. why would it be like running my car in the baja? to me it would seem like it would just be pretty stiff like running a stiff dampening setting on coils

^^^ like i previously stated. ive fabbed tons of shock brackets before. i would not be going into this blind. i have built welll over 100 air ride equipted cars/trucks and am very good with suspension and fabrication of custom suspension.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Why not consider some Z shocks/struts? They are considerably stiffer than ours and can be had on the cheap if you buy used, usually less than $100.

Actually only show trucks and mall queen trucks run double shocks.
Most true offroad vehicles run remote canister shocks so that the fluid has somewhere to travel. Dual shocks in my truck only assisted in my over arched springs to help me feel every pebble in the road but damnit I liked sitting up high.
Sadly now there are cars with as much lift as my 4Runner. I always try to challenge them to driving fast and see who can brake the quickest. 10 inch rotors were not intended to stop the rolling velocity of 28 inch wheels
Why not run stock until the baby situation is over and yes I see that you are were have been at some point on air.

you cant afford coil overs so your going to fabricate bracketry that might not work and put 4 shocks in the back of your G....hrmmm. Go to the marketplaces and wait like i hawk, i got my greddy type s coils for 650
Wow man, this is one of the weirder posts I've read on these boards.
I don't know much about your car, so let's start off with a checklist:
1.) Are you rubbing on fender edge or inside of wheelwell?
2.) Are you rolled?
3.) Are you pulled?
4.) What's your current suspension?
5.) What's your wheel/tire combo? (Include offset, width, diameter, A/R, etc)
LOL, that doesn't mean you're an engineer. I'm an ME/ID and have had a LOT of shop guys tell me 'what I should be doing' as opposed to what I did. Every single time they go against my plans, their 'fixes' are one of the first things to fail. And if you're trying to fix a problem with weak shocks/springs by adding MORE weak shocks, you really have no idea how you can remedy this problem.
Holy ****... I can't get over it... a machinist or fabricator does not equal an engineer.
Post up your specs so you can get this sorted.

This is wild; nothing personal but while you're back there you should add a flux capacitor. LMAO don't do that to your car bro. If the back is rubbing why don't you just figure out why it's rubbing and fix it. It sounds like you had modded your springs or something, buy some cheap KGY or KYB, or what everthe hell they are called. They make a cheap set of shocks that are adjustable for stiffness.... But double shocks; SMH here come the flames.

since you have built more than a couple of custom air suspensions for others, why not build one for yourself?.. even more custom than custom...
but like one has said above, screw the car for the time being, save for the baby...
