Setting toe to minimize cupping?

After an alignment and new tires, at around 20K miles, my front tires became very noisy, and at 35K, even though there was substantial tread left, they became intolerable - serious cupping had happened. I had the front suspension alignment checked (I had an alignment done about 20 months ago) and it was in specification (the post-2005 revision) for my 2004 coupe 6 mt.

I do not think I want to go thru the expense of a camber kit, so I am wondering if anybody has experience with optimal toe settings to minimize cupping. Because my tires are directional, another option suggested has been to switch the front tires on the front rims, perhaps at 10K miles.

Can somebody let me know what their experience has been? I have replaced the tires, but do not want to find myself in the same situation in the near future (I put around 30K a year on my car).

Thanks.

What was the actual value of the toe?
"in spec" is a very wide range.

Not to hijack but I find myself in the same situation as the OP. I have tire cupping on my drivers side tire and my car has 70K mi.

My mechanic said its most likely strut wear, anybody have any experience on this tire cupping on their G? Thanks.

There is service bulletin for this cupping issue on the 350Z (NTB04-043a). The specs for front toe in this bulletin are the same as what is listed in the 2006 G35 Coupe manual. However the bulletin is very clear that for the best results you should set the toe to the maximum toe in position which is 2 mm (0.08 in.) [ 0.2º ]. You can download the bulletin here (registration required): http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowl...d&pp=12&page=4
