Cost effective alternative to Brembo setup? Maybe Wilwood?

For 2 months I've been scouring the boards/ebay/CL/salvage yards for some Brembo calipers. My 04 sedans brakes need to be replaced and I can justify spending the money on the upgrade since I'm swapping out old, worn out stuff.

However, I'm seeing Brembos going for $1500-ish and I can't bring myself to spend that on used calipers. Not saying they aren't worth it, I just don't see where the money is going when they're scratched up, dented, etc...

Is there an aftermarket caliper that will work with either the later G35 rotors or Brembo rotors? I've had great luck with Wilwood in the past, but I don't see too much stuff out there for Zs/Gs unless it involves a larger rotor.

The reason why I want to stay with stock rotor sizes is because I'm running 17x9 wheels for auto-x.

i know the 5zigen fn10r-c 17" fits under those wilwood with 13" rotors..depending on the offset that is.

While those are REALLY nice, that is a LOT more than what I'm looking to spend. Looking for 1 piece rotors w/ a 4 piston front, 2 piston rear. Pretty much a true Brembo alternative. 2 piece rotors are really cool and would be great if I was doing more tracking, but it's really overkill for auto-X.

Plus, moving out of stock rotor sizes and near-stock caliper specs will push me out of my current class.

Because most of the market revolves around larger 13-14" rotors your goals are going to be a bit tough. I'll tell you that rotor size has more value than simply replacing a caliper on the stock rotor....but if a "caliper kit" is truly all you're looking for you might check with Brian at Fastbrakes and see what he has to offer you.

Thanks Todd. I'll give him a look and see what he can do. Normally, I'd take off the calipers and measure them, then fabricate brackets to make the replacement calipers work, but I'm on a huge time crunch this time around.

they make Wilwood caliper kits that bolt directly onto the OEM 05-06 rotors

Out of the ebay ones listed, I can do the front caliper kit but I can't do 13" f/r because the rotors are larger than stock. It'll put me in a class where I won't be competitive. The rules were changed recently where I can use any stock sized rotor and equivalent caliper in terms of piston quantity throughout the generation (including facelifts).

Otherwise, a 13" rotor would be fine. But in this case, it would put me up against modded EVOs, STIs, and Z06s... and I have a hard time dealing with near stock EVOs and STIs already.

So you're back to the "caliper kit" for the oe rotor then? I'm sure I could help you with that but if you're under a serious time crunch I'd keep looking for a bit. And you shouldn't be paying more than about $450 max for it if it's an FSL based kit.

Never really left it.

I took my calipers off today and measured them. I'm just going to fab some brackets and get some Wilwoods that closely match the specs of the Brembos.

Stay away, far away from those eBay Willwood setups. I had one on my old Sedan, they stopped well, only if you could deal with the noise. Not just little groans or squeaks, but loud squeals. I tried various pads/rotors, with no avail. I eventually just ditched the setup at the time I sold the car. They were quiet if you were really hogging down on them, but waaaay too noisy if you're just gently normal driving.

Thanks for the heads up. It sounds like they might've sold you a really hot pad.

Been doing a LOT of math lately and I think I might have a solution. Once I get it working, I'll post pics.
