Akebono (G37, 370Z Sport Brakes) 2-piece Rotor News

Those of us that have Akebono brakes have been waiting for 2-piece rotors since they came out...

I was following all the threads about possibles for months - but it's hard to keep up with and lately there has been a lull... So I figured I'd start a thread about release info only - please only post regarding information of two piece rotors available or on the works.

As of now, what I know is:

> Racing Brake has two piece for front only (over-priced imo) *news as of 2/10/11 - they are considering two piece rear - here is a link to their site: http://forums.racingbrake.com/showth...=2560#post2560

> Relentless Auto has two piece front and rear, but not much talk about them (also over-priced imo)

> CZP has had several iterations and is still in the process of developing (seems Coz has not given up yet, but it's been a long delay)

> StopTech associate at a Technosquare event told me "if they can't make front and rear, they won't release at all"... I've heard rumors that they have (or will have) fronts?... haven't seen anything verified.

> Current issue of Nissan Sport states Z1 Motorsports is in development and targets spring 2011 release at a price point between 300-400 per pair (this is great news and I hope it comes to fruition) - I haven't researched this yet, but intend to and will update with any viable info.
*info here: http://www.the370z.com/brakes-suspen...ck-tested.html

DBA as of late 2010 started showing up with 2 piece application - it may have always been a produced size in their line, but only recently has it been stated for the 370/G37 Sport - here is their link: http://www.dba.com.au/node/5538 part numbers: 52314SL & 52314SR (L/R)

Girodisc - as of this edit this is the most recent addition - THMototsports is working with Girodisc to develop front and rear... this is one of the more intriguing so far (imo)... here's a link to follow developments: http://www.the370z.com/brakes-suspen...ng-rotors.html and GB here: http://www.the370z.com/group-buys/30...-shipping.html

If you have info (rumor, facts, insider info) to share, please post up - I will try to update this post with anything worthwhile... this will make searching for this highly anticipated mod easier.

to those of you that don't know(i know Mike does),

prob w/Ake 2pc rears is, the OEM disc is way too skinny. no aftermarket discs available at those specs. for all other 2pc setups, all they have to do is develop application specific hats and call it a day. trying to make a new disc strong enough to hold up and still light enough to provide weight savings is what's causing the slow down. just for one application too, not worth it to a lot of companies w/the the recourses. so smaller more dedicated companies, can only achieve at much higher initial costs. i do like the RA rotors but agree that at that price point, it's not really worth it unless your car comes w/Ake's stock. i actually really dig the Stillen 1pc J-hook rotors, if they made a matching 2pc front/1pc rear setup, i think they'ed be onto something.

hasn't been much chatter about two piece rotors since I starter this thread... Until recently...

CZP has been talking about releasing fronts for quite a while - yesterday Coz announced that they have the rotors and will be releasing this weekend (as of this post they have not)...

Here's the post:

In this thread (starts at post #629 - in case you want to follow developments)
https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...-sedan-42.html

I've been waiting a long time for CZP's version - in anticipation of competitive pricing and quality product... we shall see if the wait has been worth it...

since they where gonna use DBA discs last time i checked, why wouldn't you just get the 2pc front/1pc rear setup already available form DBA?

^^^ good call Mark - I updated original post with info on DBA as well as news about GiroDisc...

The cheapest DBA I've found so far is $588 + shipping... I'm hoping Coz (CZP) is going to put together a package with a nice price point for those of of us that bought the calipers form him... If not, I'm eyeballing the GiroDisc GB in the thread linked in my updated first post.

nice update on the GiroDisc's Mike, i got my pad shims from them and they've got their **** together from what i gathered in the conversations w/them. i think Project Mu MIGHT have a 2pc front/1pc rear setup for the Ake's too, maybe even Endless.

thought process when getting replacement rotors for my Brembo setup - almost got GiroDisc's but they had a slight design compromise for the Brembo 2pc's. in the interest of max weight savings they designed the rears to need some pad trimming(that they do for free w/purchase). didn't do RacingBrake because of minimal rear weight savings due to their hat materials and didn't do Stoptech because of the price, made-to-order availability and lack of "wow" in design. i did seriously consider the Project Mu 2pc front/1pc rear for the sheer JDM appeal and the abundance of way below retail listings. in the end it was the combination of Gold theme, price and unique drilled and slotted design of the DBA's that got me.

^^^ what little I found about Project Mu is cost prohibitive and difficult (if not impossible) to acquire - so I haven't even considered those as an option.

I haven't seen/heard/read anything about Endless 2 piece Ake's... if they make them they are probably expensive... do you have any info?...

I was just checking out Racing Brakes website and I found the rears for the G37
http://www.racingbrake.com/G37_Sport...134-311-02.htm

Personally if I were to upgrade the rears, I think I would get the RA ones since they are about 50% thicker than stock.

so with a rear rotor like the RA 2-pc, what are your brake pad options? Seems to me a special pad (thinner) would be required to fit in the OE caliper and clear the much thicker rotor.

The only problem is - its "pre-order, group buy only" which means they don't exist yet... but its worth keeping an eye on - thanks for posting the link
