My brakes are starting to squeal at 45K miles. The local mechanic who has been reliable told me over the phone he would resurface the rotors when replacing the pads and I probably would only need the front axle done.
1. Would you resurface them even if they are not obviously scored?
2. Do you think they might need to be replaced anyway due to wear?
3. What is the best place to get true OEM pads?

When was the last time you replaced the brakes?

 

On another car! My brakes have been fine for 45000 mi. I don't live in Miami.

 

What year car do you have? If it is on 03-04 go with aftermarket pads. If 05-06 stick with stock. I would look at Riverside Infiniti on ebay for stock pads.

 

Thanks, I have an '05, that's why I want to replace with stock. They saved my life once when some kids turned left in front of me when I was going 50 on a two-lane road. I saw the kid's eyes about six feet from mine right before I stopped and he went by. I'm guessing the inside of his car smelled bad afterwards.
What about the rotor questions?

 

If you replace pads, you should either resurface or get new rotors. Reason for this is the pad material "beds" into the surface of the new rotor and creates friction material on both surfaces that aids in braking. You don't need to replace rotors...I have frequently "pad-slapped" cars and just replace the pads only.


Squealing brakes doesn't necessarily mean the brakes are done. You really need to pull a wheel and inspect pad thickness. If there is plenty of meat, you can re lubricated the caliper. Noise is caused by vibrations and harmonics.

I bought my oem brake stuff off eBay from Infiniti parts wholesalers. I think I paid about $250 for new rotors and pads up front and did the install myself in no time

 

I think the pads are probably done but I will check. Do the G35 rotors take resurfacing OK? I have heard that bimmer rotors are so thin and the pads wear them down almost as fast as the pads that you often have to replace rotors with pads. Do you measure rotor thickness to see if you can grind them without making them too thin? Thanks for your advice.

Yes they are. I bought rotors from the same company and so far have been pleased.

Just got one lol for when I did my suede headliner..

So I can get any one of those rotors on that site and they should work.. also where can I pickup some OEM replacement pads? Does that site have them?

 

Yes, the OEM rotors will surface fine. I had all 4 of mine resurfaced about 2 weeks ago when I replaced all my OEM pads to Hawk pads.
