the car is a 6speed brembo edition, my rotors and brakes are going, i met up with a guy that totalled his coupe (brembo edition as well). so he sold me all four rotors for 80 buck. now my question is, do i continue to use oem brembo pads or can i go with aftermarket adn which one, i need to purchase soon

The problem with using old brakes from another car is that you don't know whether they are in good condition. The wheels may have been torqued incorrectly, permanently damaging the rotors. The rotors could have been installed with excessive runout, causing excessive thickness variation. It could also be glazed or resurfaced.

An accident could sometimes bend the rotor hat, causing runout problems. I would inspect them with a dial gauge to check for runout before using them. I would also lightly resurface them with either a lathe or a orbital sander to make sure all the glazes and old pad material is gone.

If they are in great shape, them $80 is a great deal.

 

Did you ask you buddy how many miles he has on the rotors? It's a good deal, so I hope they weren't damaged.

As for pads, I would suggest Akebono Pro ACT ceramics or StopTech Street Performance pads.

 

Once you've verified you can use the rotors you purchased check our MARKETPLACE under verdor brakes. I love the HAWK HP pads and I know they make 'em for the Brembo system. Almost zero brake dust and they stop better than OE pads....

I'll second tyau's comments - check them out before mounting. You can use OEM pads again, certainly, but there are some decent aftermarket alternatives too. I've been very happy with the Project Mu NS - cheaper than OEM and perform just like them, with a bit less dust. Great bite when cold, in the wet and over the winter, which will be important where you live. I would avoid pads like Hawk HPS since their cold bite is terrible.

 

im not using pads, just the rotors. he had a 04 brembo edition, got macked formt he rear! rotos are immaculant and he showed me the title were the car only has 43k miles.. but before mounting my mechanic is going to get them resurfaced. i just want got brake pads that i can purchase asap so i can get rid of this headache (braking issue) !

 

What braking issues are you having?

You may or may not need new pads.

 

when i brake is squeaks to a stop, i always told i might need new brakes when i bought the car (sep 09).. so i bought practically new rotors. so now all i need is pads i guess

 

Squeaky brakes do not translate to a need for replacement. They may just need to be lubricated. Does your car shake when you brake at high speeds? If not you may not need new rotors, depending on the thickness of the old rotors.

no it doesnt shake, it just squeaks when i come to a stop.. thats all, i might just want to be on a safe side by changing pads and rotors lol. thank you so much for your input
