BC coilovers, true coilover or oem style?
BC coilovers, true coilover or oem style?
hey everyone,
I've been trying to find out whether or not BC racing BR type coilovers are true coilovers or just OEM type. After some researching I assumed that they were OEM style only because those were the only kind I saw in pictures and vendor sites. After some searching on my350z I see this post
http://my350z.com/forum/8337533-post10.html
And that just fcked everything up for me. The post shows bc racing coilovers with a true coilover in the rear with an additional spring on the mid link. wtf
What are the advantages of having TWO springs in the rear? I assume its sort of like having a progressive setup? (one spring is softer than the other) Also, can I buy just the true coilover style alone from bc(without additional spring)? how much is it? Where can I get it?
This is the first ever time i have seen BC racing with a true coilover in the rear and the first ever time I've seen TWO springs in the rear.

I believe you can only buy them in OEM style with the spring separate from the shock. In the front they will always be a "true" coilover. I have BC racing coilovers and they are OEM style in the rear/"true" in the front. They only have 400 miles on them and I'm parting out my car and selling them.. I loved the way they rode tho.. As far as the two springs in the rear.. I'm not sure. I only have one spring that sets separate from the struts in the rear and the height adjustability isn't on the strut.

I have no clue, my BCs don't look like that. I know there were some issues with people installing them incorrectly (upside down) but I've never come across that pic before.
how the hell do people install it upside down?
lots of people put the springs upside down, the spring mounts upside down, don't remove spring mounts blah blah
Maybe he found extra springs and lockrings from the front coilover and just popped them onto the rear. The rear damper bodies are threaded and look roughly the same diameter as the front dampers so I imagine the lock rings would work on both.
Aww hell, I installed my first one (rear passenger side) upside down before I realized that didn't seem right. In my defense, you've seen the BC install instructions, and I wanted to get it done, was in a bit of a hurry to drive my car again, wasn't a big deal to fix and fixed it before it ever drove anywhere when I noticed the little clips at the top (it is possible to get it to sit down nicely upside down though, although I imagine driving that way would suck)
But back to the topic at hand, what that guy's got going on in the rear isn't typical of the standard BR coilovers. It almost looks like he used the rear spring and a front coilover-type strut instead of the standard rear strut which, on the BR series anyway, doesn't have another spring. Don't know what, why, or how, but that's my best guess... that being said I've already established that I'm pretty suspension-retarded
Disclaimer: If any of this post didn't make sense, I'm drunk. PM me and I'll explain it when I sober up :P
