extreme uneven brake pad wear.

i'v replaced a few sets of brake pads, front and back, with no problems in the past; however, on the last rear brake pad replacement, i noticed, within a week or so on the passenger side its completely worn away, the other is virtually untouched. i tested to see if the piston would respond when braking and it does, obviously theres a major imbalance. what could cause such an extreme imbalance? i hardly even use my brakes i usually am able to brake lightly and down shift so as to not have to break heavily at all, weather it be a stop sign 2nd gear roll, or red light. are there any easy cheap things i can try, or am i looking at a caliber rebuild or replacement?
