Rear clicking
Rear clicking
Hi everyone, so I got my 2003 G used a couple months ago, and its been slammed on coils all of its life. I noticed that the rear starting clicking, I read that it might be the rear axle. The best way to describe the sound would be simply light popping of the bubbles in bubble wrap. Happens more evidently when I am at very low speeds, starting from a stop or coming to a stop.
Is this caused by my car being too low? And do you guys think that this sound is actually from the rear axle clicking? I want to diagnose what the sound actually is and how much the fix will be. Thanks.

It does sound like the axle click. Is it a light, metalic clicking? If so it's a pretty easy fix if you can turn a wrench. It took me a couple of hours and a $6 tube of synthetic grease to do both sides. Better than the $400 the stealership wanted.
I think mine's only on the driver side I hear a very faint clicking, but the entire rear I'll hear the popping bubblewrap sound...

The other thing I didn't mention that will cause the clicking is a loose axle nut. Pull your wheels and you'll see it in the hub. IIRC it's a 32mm nut and it's torqued to 177 lb/ft. You might want to check this first before you start pulling axles and re-greasing them.
Yep - sounds like axle click. I had it and the dealer took care of it under warranty. I primarily got mine when shifting from P to R the first time of the day. Mine wasn't always consistent but it was there more often than not.
Very annoying is all I'll say.. If I hadn't been under warranty I would have done it myself as Blue Dream suggests - it isn't that complicated to do.
