Please help! No brake pedal after swap!
Please help! No brake pedal after swap!
So I did a brake swap on my 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan with the 6MT to the 2005 Infiniti G35 calipers and rotors. After I bled the brakes several times, THE PEDAL STILL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR! I have been bleeding the air out of these for 3 days now and still no pedal!
Can anyone help???!!!

Could your brake booster be defective. Check all your lines and make sure there is no leaks and that all bleeder screws are on tight (not torqued down tight but snug). I will speak to a buddy of mine "ACIDJAKE" and will ask his opinion of what he thinks it might be. So you took the dual piston calipers from the 05 model and the rotors. What all did you swap over just calipers and rotors. Are you manually bleeding or using a vacuum assisted pump.
I changed over to the dual piston calipers, pads and rotors! Thats all!
I am manually bleeding them, I even got my buddy to pump the calipers all the way out and then I bled them while I pushed them back in!
No leaks as I checked several times!
I just cant see it being my booster cause before I did the swap, everything worked great!

You are bleeding with the calipers installed right? ie.. with the rotors and brake pads all installed? And you're starting from the back right, back left, front left and then front right? No bubbles of air I also assume?
I did the swap a few years ago and haven't had this problem. I know if you have new rotors and pads, it takes a bit for them to firm up. But the pedal to the floor thing should not be happening.
Does the pedal firm up at ALL while you are bleeding? Or is to the floor during the entire process?

If you pump the pedal repeatedly it firms up, then you let off, wait a second or two, then you press the pedal again and it goes right to the floor! The brakes are all installed, new pads, and rotors!
I don't know if this helps, but im thinking the master cylinder does no have the same amount of fluid displacement because it has to run through the ABS block!
My car does have VDC, and ABS so maybe that's why its not working? Worth mentioning for someone who really knows these cars!

My car has VDC and ABS. As mentioned, I'm running 06 350Z front/rear brakes on my 2003 sedan.
But you make a good point. Maybe your ABS controller needs to be bled. Or maybe the master cylinder needs to be bench bled.

So I bench bled the master cylinder, bled the ABS module, and bled the brakes all around again and it still does the same thing!
I put the original brakes back on and bled the whole system again and the brakes work fine!
I have no idea whats going on?

Wow odd and alot of work.
You want to try replacing one caliper at a time? ie.. do the front driver's side. Bleed. Then if okay, try the other front. Bleed. etc. etc etc. Maybe one of the calipers is seized or is leaking. Sorry I can't pinpoint it.

So I basically did what you mentioned by pinching off the brake lines with special clamps and the brake pedal stayed firm. Then i released one side and the pedal still dropped, then the other and the pedal dropped.

So this whole thing just doesn't make sense!
I just realized that I didn't check to make sure the calipers were on the right side! Maybe they were on the wrong side and that would put the bleeder screw at the bottom of the caliper so that would not allow me to bleed them out!
I'm gonna remount them and make sure they are on the right side, I will let u guys know when I'm done!
Thanks for all your help guys! Nice to see a forum that helps out the average gear head!

Perhaps the calipers are bad? Where did you get them from?
I know the mastercylinder is different from 03/4 to 05/7 cars, but Jeff did the swap with no ill effects?
I would get the calipers rebuilt. Something is wrong with them. I would also use a powerbleeder like Motive or similar. I've heard of a few BBK upgrades on the board and people needed to use the motive to get good pedal.
