Brake Caliper Bracket
Brake Caliper Bracket
I tried to search the forums but couldn't find anyone else with similar problem. This concerns 2007 g35 coupe 6mt.
I got my brakes done today and it turns out that the front right caliper bracket is not good anymore. Bear with me here as I am not very well versed in brakes. The two bolts that move up and down on the sides of the bracket (i.e. on top of them you bolt the caliper to the bracket), one of them is stuck and wont budge. I tried to use WD 40, pliers, hammer the sh*t of out it but it won't budge. And I can't put new pads on it.
SO, has anyone else ever faced this problem? Is there a way to get it moving again or do I need a new bracket? If I need a new bracket, where can I get it? Apparently, the dealer only sells the whole caliper and quoted me over $300!!. I have searching online to find these brackets but to no avail.
I really need help! Can someone point me in the right direction?
Also, are the brake calipers or mounts same for 05-06 g35 coupes or are they different? How about 06 350z caliper? I found some here used: http://www.slidegood.com/05-infiniti...e-caliper.html . http://www.slidegood.com/06-nissan-3...caliper-1.html . Anyone have any ideas of whether or not any of these will work for my car? Again I only need the mounting bracket so I couldn't care less about the condition of the caliper.
Thanks!

if the rubber boot around the slider pin that goes into the bracket is damaged water can get in and they rust up. Is the rubber boot bad ?
I'd try to knock the pin out by either turning it with vice grips or hitting it out with a flatblade screwdriver and a BFH (big fn hammer) and / or try heat on the pin.
Before you do so check with local auto parts stores to get a replacement caliper pin / boot kit. They're cheap grease the new ones with brake grease and put the new pins in.
May be easier to knock the pin out if you have the bracket off the car.

Thanks 68_GT!
Alright, so its called slider pin. Yeah the rubber boot look bad because there is quite a bit of rust inside. I tried to take it out both ways, on the car and off the car, it just wouldnt budge. I will try giving it another shot. How do you can I heat it? With a heat gun?

you may try to set the bracket down with the pins vertical and spray PB Blaster (rust penatrater) in there and try again.
I keep a small propane, or butane torch what ever it is in my garage for stuff like that. I got it from Home Depot with the small can and a torch tip. I think it was like $50 but it's good to have around for various things. Just remember the very tip of the flame where you can't even see the flame much is the hottest part. Remember aluminum doesn't look hot even when it's scorching hot. Use channel locks to hold the hot parts.
have fun
