My OEM front shocks were shot already at 100k miles but i drove them couple of more thousands miles like that. i got a knocking noise everytime i step on a pothole. i though that sound was because my shocks were shot. but when i put the new ones on i still hear the knocking sound in the front. i was wkndering what is it and what should i replace? lower control? bushing? idk? any links to what i need greatly apreciate.

here are the major issues
check for:
ball joints
bushings
tie rods
endlinks

these solve most of the "clunking" issues when going over small bumps. and if you're going to replace them, dont go OEM. Upgrade them. You'll feel a major difference in handling and control.

 

Thanks alot. Are tie rods same as compression rods? Im confuse on that one. And i was looking for the ball joint and all i can find is the whole lower control arm.. I would prefer to upgraded them but what do i need just the bushings ? Energy or whiteline? Or do i have to get the whole arm new?.

I would prefer upgrading instead of OEM. But i dont know what i should buy. Also im a bit short on cash since i just bought coils. Another Q' is there any harm on the car if i drive it with the broken/damage bushings . Cuz if not i could wait until next yr and buy the upgraded ones? Btw ill be doing the installation ... Only thing i cant do is remove the bushings i would have to take them to a shop and get the old out and the new ones press in...

 

if your arms arent cracked or jacked up theres no need to buy the arm. just buy the ball joints if they are worn. Jack the car up and wiggle the wheels. If there is excessive play it will come down to those few items i listed earlier except the endlinks. id look at the ball joints first. the last thing you need is your entire front suspension coming apart.

 

also get energy bushing set and get whiteline end links(A MUST FOR AFTERMARKET SWAYS). The OEM endlinks are known to crap out on aftermarket sways. They arent strong enough. Being dropped also puts a lot of strain on those endlinks. the 05+ have beefier end links.They are an easy install as well as the tie rods and bushings

 

i was just adjusting my coils today and i didnt see anything broken.. the ball joints are not leaking grease, they all black and kind of hard but thats it. endlinks are normal not bent or anything.. the control arms are fine no cracks.. the other bushings are a bit torn most of all on the drivers side which is where i hear the squeaking noise the most.

 

are these the ones i need and thats it?? what about the ball joints i cant find an upgrade for those only oem

Want to change them all at the same time to save time.. I was thinking bout changing my hub bearing also. Im at 110k miles wondering what else i should change to have my G front suspension like new. =]

any update on this?
my front end, especially the driver side (actually i think it only happens on the driver side) creaks like a **** when going over bumps. during winter when cold, its 10 x worse. it almost sounds like its gone or lessened, when the car's been driven and hot.
it almost started to happen when i switched over from oem to stance GR+ coils.

what are some of the procedures to check and diagnose which part i will have to replace?

 

I hadnt change anything cuz im not using my G that much. Plus im waiting for my tax return to buy everything at once and replace them all at once. Symptoms: if u use your breaks and u hear that creaking sound is cuz ur compression rod bushing and lower control arm bushing are busted.

If u hear that squaking noise when turning ur ball joints are torn.

If u go over a bump and it makes that clunk noise i believe ia the oem endlinks are broken(i have the 03 which are the worse ones)

If u hear some knock, knock, knock etc while driving. Ur hub/bearings or tie rod are broken.
