Suspension ?'s Which way to go?
Suspension ?'s Which way to go?
I'm needing to replace my shocks/struts soon and am wondering which way to go.
I'm not lowering it at all. Its a DD and im happy with the ride and the stance so far but body roll is ridiculous.
I'm not going to track it or even try to drift it either.
I know I will have to stiffen the ride up a bit but Id like to keep it close to stock if possible.
Should I go with a good shock/strut replacement and upgraded sway bars and maybe some strut bars?
Thoughts on coil-overs on a DD that's not going to be lowered?
Can I have coil-overs and keep the stock height?
Thanks for your info!

Easy fix, check our MARKETPLACE under vendor suspension. Tokico blues will give you a perfect OE ride and they won't empty your wallet. You'll just need to find a quality shop to install then give you a wheel alignment which I recommend after shock install....Gary
Thanks! I'll start with those, maybe add some strut bars and go from there.
I would probably go for oem shocks if I were you, unless tokico blues are cheaper.... I think the blues would probably get you worse comfort if anything. I've seen a lot of hate for those tokico hp's, but these are mostly from track/autox people.
Shocks also don't really affect body roll. They do change the rate at which you roll transiently somewhat, but not the roll angle. To decrease the roll angle, you either want a lighter car, wider wheelbase, lower center of gravity, higher roll center, crappier tires, stiffer springs, or bigger anti-roll bars.
The simplest is to get bigger anti roll bars. I would stay away from changing the springs/shocks if you like/are satisfied with the stock ride height.

My advice: Sway bars and Tokico DSP-7's (D-Spec adjustable shocks) on OEM springs. While what totopo says is technically true that shocks don't affect how much roll you get, they do affect the rate at which you get to the max roll point, and that has a big impact on handling feel of the car. Shocks with higher compression/rebound damping (valving) will definitely make the car faster in transition.
I have been running the combo of Stillen sways, OEM springs and DSP-7's for a few years now and it's a great combination on my DD. A very nice ride that is much better in transition and has much less body roll. It's how the car should have come from the factory.

strut bars do help but you will feel a more dramatic decrease in body roll after upgrading the front and rear sway bars. I'd recommend upgrading those first, then if you feel you want to upgrade more, then get the strut bars after.
