Small Questions Thread: Brakes and Suspension
If you get new brakes do you need new rotors as well? Because the last time I got new brakes I did not replace my rotors and now I think they are warped because when I drive at high speeds and start braking, the car starts to shake. Is this a sign that the rotors are warped?
No experience with Hawk, but I had "heard" that they squeal and need to warm up because they have weak initial bite on cold days, but are good when warmed up.
Usually yes. You may notice older rotors are not smooth and may have some grooves in them, and pads will mirror those imperfections. Old pads won't mate with the new rotors very well, so pads and rotors should be replaced at the same time.
Just when you replace one or the other you should re-bed in your brakes. Look at the stoptech page for instructions. And if you get any judder rebed your brakes to save your rotor.
Hey guys
I am looking to replace my brakes (oem brembos).
I DD the car 25 miles highway a day each way, and also a track once a month (4 sessions of 25 mins)
I prefer to just keep same set of rotors/pads on and off the track, I realize that this will mean that I won't be able to use track-only pads, but I'm okay with the decreased performance.
I do care about noise and dust, but of course I am not looking for a pad with zero dust because brake fade will be ridiculous at the track. Price is less of an issue.
What pad would you guys recommend? I have heard about, Stoptech Street performance, EBC Yellow Stuff, Project Mu NS (Have had them and love the streetability, but have never used them on the track), Project Mu B-Force and Fedoro DB2500. Anything else I should buy instead?
Thanks!

However, just as a reference for people who read this in the future, and def not trying to bash your choice, but the HP+ and HPS are known to be some of the worst choices for even light track. They produce fade very quickly, and even with cold rotors, they don't have good breaking torque. For street only they will hold up fine, and probably some autoX as well. The autocross/road racing section on my350 can provide further info on them in case people with the Hawks want to learn more.
I alreay have SS lines and centric rotors, so I'm good with that part at least, thought I'll get the rotors done when I change the brake pads

For sure, the hawks are very appropriate street choice, specially now that the pmu streets (ns) double in price making the difference unreasonable.
Ill def look into your suggestion, thanks again

I've heard mixed reviews about hawk pads that they squeal and aren't as good as OEM but I've heard centric pads are OEM quality and are cheaper. anyone recommend which is the best value? I have non brembo
Non Brembo rotors I would recommend centric pads and rotors for daily use.
Carbotech "Bobcat" 1521 is their street compound.
