new struts or coilovers

Im in need of new struts. i was looking at tokico d spec, but as i was searching i came across some coilovers like the tanabe pro s-oc and megan street series. The coilovers didn't cost that much more than the struts. Im looking for a performance upgrade but also keep the ride comfortable. I was wondering if it would be better to switch over to coilovers or stay with stock springs and new struts. Any advice would be helpful.

My advice would be to stay with your stock shocks since it looks like you aren't looking for a drop. If you must replace your shocks (ie blown/old) then I would recommend you go with oem, or reputable companies, like koni and bilstein, which actually aren't too much more expensive than other aftermarket options.

Just because things are aftermarket and have more bells and whistles doesn't mean they will improve the performance of your car. There is a reason budget coilovers are budget.

Thumbs up

That depends on whether or not you're going to keep lowering the car coilovers are good for a slammed look but depending on where you live and the type of streets you'll be driving on you may not want to go too low. However a good set of lowering springs and the struts you mentioned that should give you a ride you'll enjoy. I have a set of Tanabe lowering springs NF210 and I'll be adding Tockico D-Specs later this summer. I'm rocking 20 inch wheels all on stock struts and I'm happy with the ride.

I dont plan on going lower. Our roads here in Hawaii are really bad. I ordered new shocks, Tokico hp. Thanks for the advice, it really helped me make a decision.
