Any opinions on Akebono Street Performance Ultra Premium Ceramic Brake Pads?
Any opinions on Akebono Street Performance Ultra Premium Ceramic Brake Pads?
My gf has a 2004 G35 Couple 6MT, I am looking to change the pads and I was checking these
Akebono Street Performance Ultra Premium Ceramic Brake Pads from brakesforless.com, I have a G37 and last year I changed the pads for ProAct Akebono and had a good experience.
Anyone has any experience with the Akebono Street performance pads? I heard that since it's a manual transmission it has more stress on the brakes.
I think the price is pretty good as well.
Any input is much appreciated.

I don't have any personal experience yet but I spoke to the guys at Tire Rack yesterday and they said that the Performance pads have got slightly better stopping power than the ProAct's but also produce slightly more dust.
6MT 06 coupe here and I 2nd your own opinion on the ProAct's being an excellent choice. I used those on the wife's maxima as well and couldn't be happier.
As far as a manual making more stress on the brakes, maybe you're referring to the Brembo's being standard gear on the older coupes? Any reason other than that would make no sense. Even with the Brembo argument, I wouldn't say that having Brembo's are "stressful". Driving style is much more relevant here.
Make sure you're looking at the correct pads since the 04 auto's did come with normal brake calipers vs the larger Brembo's on 6MT. If you search for threads on what others have replaced their Brembo's with, you'll find a lot of fans for Hawk pads.

any suggestions on any of them?
I used the ProAct on my old G37 sedan last year but the G37 doesnt have a brembo kit and it's automatic and is a sedan, I say I was happy with the Akebono ProAct, but the pads that they sell on brakesforless have the ProAct exc brembo caliper and there is no option for brembo.
Ya I see the proACT line isn't offered for the Brembo calipers. I can't find any opinions on this line at the 350z/g35 boards. It's hard to go wrong with Akebono so I'm sure these would work out well. If you read the threads on Hawk pads, you'll find many love them and just as many hate them.
Rockauto.com (common respected online car parts shop) is showing the ASP960 at $59 + shipping so the pricing you're seeing is reasonable depending on shipping.

thanks for the input, I asked the rep online, I asked him what would be the best fit, my gf just does regular driving, no racing or nothing and he suggested that if she wasnt into racing to stick with akebono. The shipping is free and since they are in Miami I can get them tomorrow. Taxes were $4 so overall was like $70. not bad considering I will have them tomorrow.
