hey guys a couple of weeks ago i had installed some some kyb struts that i bought at autozone for my sedan. i had them installed and noticed that the ride was much firmer im feeling every little bump on the road and the big one are kinda of harsh. i called up my buddy who works at autozone and he told me he can swap them out for me for some gabriel ultra but there for a coupe sport since the only strut they carry for the sedan is the kyb. my question is can i install the gabriel struts on the sedan without a problem? i feel like these kyb are just way to much of a hard ride for my taste and the gabriels would be softe. any help would be appreciated it thanks, by the way i have a 05 sedan

I can't imagine KYBs being too firm. Unless your old shocks were beat to living hell. But the coupe shocks/struts should fit fine. I used oem coupe shocks/struts on my G35 sedan.

But IMHO, you are probably feeling what new shocks feel like. If you want the same cushy ride as before to start out with, those will start feeling really bad as they wear out

 

i just cant see them being that stiff the whole car shakes when i got over a bump and you fell every little imperfection on the road can i t be that i damaged them i week after they were installed i hit a speed bump like at 50 i know i wastn paying attention plus i was driving in mexico lol should i get them replaces with the gabriel they also have lifetime warranty

 

You might have bent something.

 

just got back from my mechanic he said everythign is ok nothign bent but he did also noticed that sturt were pretty stiff. im gonn have them swapped out for the gabriels gives me alittle piece of mind i dont even want to drive it because the ride is so rough.

 

What wheels and tires do you have on your sedan? KYB should feel perfect IMO.

 

im riding on coupe 18 with 235/45/18 but i dont recall the ride being that harsh with the previouse struts

 

You bought new struts I'm assuming because they were toasted, correct? Bad shocks will not act as they should. Your KYB replacements are perfect for the sedan. Give it a little bit of time to get used to. I went from the 04 sport shocks to coilovers and even my ride is not harsh. Are you worried your dentures are going to falll out?

ive had the car a little over a year now when bought it used, it rode great soft but a tad firm up until dec i started feeling the rode more and the bumps and a clunk when going into driveways so i decided to buy new shocks but these kyb just feel way to firm. i tried to doing the bounce test pushing down on one corner and it wouldnt even move. can worn out compression rod bushings and both bushing on the lower control arm cause the rough ride?

 

Sounds like my car.
Just start hogging, an extra 300-400lbs will break in the shocks faster and will give you a smoother ride.

 

Plus it will give you a temporary stance look.

 

how long did it take for your new struts to settle did you install kyb also?

 

I have Tanabe Pro-5 coilovers. They have had years to break-in but regardless its still a rough ride.

 

my new kyb's started to get soft after 3-4 weeks
