2 piece rotors, how do you like yours?

Hey guys,

My rotors warped and out of spec... perfect time to upgrade to some 2 piece rotors in the front. Seem to be a fair amount of Brembo specific applications out there and since it's still freezing outside (car is stored inside), I have a little bit of time to find out what will work best for me.

The ones that are catching my eye are the DBA 5000s and the RBs. The AMS Max Slots also look pretty good too; unfortunately, I cant find much info on them anywhere. It'll see some HPDE and maybe the odd auto-x every now and then, but it'll be mostly a street car.

Anyways, what are you using? How do you like them? And where did you get them from?

Cheers,
Alex

Not really. Main concern is weight. Otherwise I'd just get some gigantic Akebonos and call it a day. . If it's possible to get 2 piece rotors that aren't drilled/slotted, that would be ideal.

I guess the only thing that I really care about aesthetically is that they aren't flashy. I'm not a fan of the gold/red/cyan hats, at least not on this car. Black/charcoal/silver hats are what I'm looking for.

The rotors do have to function; I can't see the value in a 2 piece rotor that is only 1.5lbs lighter than stock. But once it starts becoming 5lbs or more lighter, then I'm interested.

Do you track often or just for show? Using them with stock brembo calipers or larger?

They ususally cost 200-300% more and weigh 15-20% less. Stock OEM Brembos weigh about 22 lbs each, RB single piece weigh about 21 lbs each, 2 piece RB weigh about 15 lbs each.

You probably wont notice the difference driving, but will look much prettier. Is it worth paying double for your car to look faster? That is a decision you have to make.

The car is more of a late-spring thru early-fall daily driver, but I do like to have fun with it. It only sees about 3-4 events a year, but I may take it out a few more times this year.

I upgraded to the stock Brembo calipers/rotors a while ago (these are on a 1st gen sedan). In theory, a new set of 1 piece rotors and more aggressive pads might be all I really need. This just happens to be the perfect time to upgrade... current rotors are toast and car won't be out until it's warmer.

After driving a 1st gen coupe with Akebonos and noticed that every bump was more pronounced (drove it before and after install), I figure that if there's any opportunity to shed unsprung weight, go for it!

As long as there is a noticeable difference in weight, I have no issues paying twice as much for rotors. A 7lb difference in the RB 2 piece is definitely worth a look.

If you are looking to shave unsprung mass, it would much better to get wheels. Enkei RPF1, SSR Comps, Kosei K1 TS only weigh about 18lbs for 18x9.5, take off 5-6lbs per wheel. 20+lbs is better than 14lbs and cost about the same.

Already there . I have some a34 Rays Eng on the car now, they're around 19lbs. Not the lightest wheel out there, but well within my budget at the time and they look like they belong on the car.

Would love some RPF1s for HDPE, but I already have 3 sets of wheels/tires in the garage.

I get the feeling you're trying to talk me into 1 piece rotors tho.

Here's everything that's been done so far:

• Brembo conversion w/ss lines
• A34 wheels/Ventus V12 tires
• Quaife diff
• 350z revised/tokico HPs
• All suspension bushings replaced with Nismo
• New seats are in the plans since the sedan seats have so little bolstering

It is your money boss. But 2 piece rotors and BBKs are 80% show, alot of extra $$ for not alot of gain. It is amazing how much you can improve your stock brakes with just quality fluid and pads. 1 piece aluminum drive shafts also shave alot of mass if that money is burnin a hole in your pocket.

That's a valid point, didn't even think of that one! Saw a set of DBA 4000 rotors (full set) for $299 and thought that was a damn good price.

And now I'm starting to wonder about that alum driveshaft... Need to look into that one. You wouldn't happen to have one yourself, would you?

I do... but I dont have a G35.
There are several members here with aluminum or carbon fiber drive shafts and have claimed good results. Search for some of the review threads.
