Steering binding like crazy!

hey guys,

So I finally took my car to my buddy who owns a shop and he was able to diagnose what was wrong. He reported back telling me that the rack and pinion system was pretty much blown and I am also due for all shocks and struts as well as sway bar end links.

I haven't seen much info on the rack and pinion system, so I was wondering if anyone heard of this and what kind of issues people have had. I am also curious on cost of the parts and repair for it.

Thanks in advance!!

Suspension parts wear out and it seems to me our parts wear much faster than other cars I've owned. I've replaced racks on my Corvettes which are only good for 70K miles at best. Willmkent, you can either order parts needed from our Marketplace under vendor suspension or have your buddy that owns the shop get them for you. KYB shocks are a good replacement for your OE shocks, installed them on my last Z. You have choices...Gary

thanks man, I haven't done much research on on the rack. What is the average price for this part?? I thought about getting KYB struts and shocks because i don't feel like i want to lower the car due to camber issues

And the fact that your car would be a snowplow that couldn't move during the winter months...

Check the lubrication on the steering parts before you throw money at it.

I put my G with a notchy steering situation on a lift today and used grease to lubricate most of the steering pieces. They were bone dry.

He told me that on side of the steering rack was pretty bad and looked like it had been leaking for quite a while, I'm pretty sure it's going to need a replacement because the performance of the steering and all of the clunking has led me to believe that this season has taken its tole on the car and the previous owner may not have maintained the steering system

I bought a reman on ebay for about 165. My steering wheel is binding as well? I just changed my front control arms, then it started happening. Any idea?

Hey man, as he tore my suspension apart, he found that my compression rods had bad bushing where they bolt up to the chassis. I would look into that as well, after he replaced my rack and pinion he did the compression rods along with quite a bit of additional suspension parts and now my car is perfect.
