Need help choosing new suspension
Need help choosing new suspension
I think the shocks on my 2007 G35 Coupe 6MT are blown after only ~100k (70,000mi), so I'm in the market for a new suspension. The tricky part is that my car is a daily driver that sees everything from harsh winters (with snow tires/wheels) to aggressive street driving and lapping days. I知 know I知 asking a lot of 1 suspension to fit my wants/needs, but I知 aware that there will be some compromises.
My current suspension mods are f&r sways, f&r tie bars, GT-Spec fender braces and 265/245 tires (on stock rims). I壇 like to keep the ride height stock (or close) because of winter driving and some reasonable road manners because it痴 my DD, but I知 open-minded to something a bit agressive or better.
Right now I知 considering everything from buying used stock suspension of a G or 350Z or a new set of fully adjustable coils. I知 cheap, but also willing to spend on the right long-term solution. Would appreciate any/all advice!
Thx!

I've been very happy running stock springs with Tokico DSP-7 (D-spec) adjustable shocks on my DD for the last 5+ years. No track days for me, but I do drive aggressively at times and find them to be really good, while allowing me to retain stock ride height. My driveway has a sharp dip so I can't really go any lower. I drive through winter on snows as well, and can set the damping to be less aggressive for pothole season.
I bought my set on the forum from another user who never installed them, and I think I paid ~$450. These days, I believe a set of four goes for about $750+:

They're very easy to adjust up front, with a small keyed tool that you insert in the shock top and turn. The rears are easy if you install the shock extensions:

There are a few threads on the D-specs and how to install the extensions, etc.

Thanks bro. Good reviews on those Tokico's, but you're right the price has jumped up a bit. Also, I'm buying in CDN and our dollar is getting crushed right now
Any thoughts on a 350z setup? Apparently they only lower the car 1/2"... maybe I can deal with that .

Late follow-up, but I ended up going a similar route - thanks for your advice. I also found a barn-burning deal on some new Koni adjustables and I decided to swap in some 350z lowering springs too. The subtle drop is just perfect for me (had to cut the rear perches though). Very little issues with scrape and no problems this winter (mind you, we barely had any snow).
Overall the ride is better, but not as ground breaking as I expected. I'm not sure if it's because:
- My shock/springs aren't properly matched
- The Koni's don't adjust for dampening & rebound
- I don't know how to tune my suspension very well
- My expectations were too high
- All of the above
I've run full soft and full hard (and there's a fairly noticeable diff), but adjusting the rear Koni's shock towers is a PITA. I might play with it a bit more this spring, especially if I can squeeze in a couple lapping days.
Overall good value decision that met my needs; just need to optimize my tuning now
