When I bedded my brakes they were smoking like crazy and made a huge stink. Lots of black oily crap flew off the rotors and onto the inside of the wheel. The rotors had a slight blue tinge to them and there is a nice even smearing of pad material on the rotor.

I did 3 cycles of the procedure - the brakes can take it so hit them hard and they'll be fine.
