Rotors....
Hi all!
I have an 03.5 AT Coupe and was wondering how many brake changes you would need before changing out the rotors? Also, are there drilled rotors out there for the same price as the factory rotors? If not, maybe recommend OEM rotors that don't cost as much as factorys? So far I got quoted like 137 each for the front rotors and 144 each for the rears.... I am really hating the cost of a brake job now. If I need to replace the rotors, its like a 700 dollar job!! I don't know if anyone else out there feels the same, but I'm just venting now. Thanks in advance!

well brakes are covered for 3 year/36000 miles if you have factory infiniti brakes. if you have the brembos then you're out of luck. i hope this helps. try everythingg35 for some cross drilled rotors

Unfortunately, I am at 44k miles now
ya i agree, you shouldnt have to replace a rotor after 44k, unless you did some real major driving/autoX and have stress cracks/fractures, or if you simply never changed your pads and were rubbing the pads metal backing into the rotors creating 'grooves' in ur rotors....

g35's specifically have a unique braking system. they have pads that wear out really fast and rotors that suffer because of it. but because of all of this, the braking distance compares to that of the brembo brake system. the main difference is that brembos can repeat this all day long, where as the factory system will show brake fade after a short while of heavy brake use.
yes, people with g35's have issues with braking systems. what car do you own?

^^ exactly. And even with most pad changes you just need to resurface the rotors. To fvck them enough to replace would mean you drove without pads, and I dont know how you would miss all the screeching from that. I dont think you need new rotors at all, dealers can be shady. This is the second time on this board ive seen this. Some lady posted a while back saying her dealer said she needed new rotors and she wasnt even at 30k! Take your car to brake check/just brakes/midas etc and find out what they say. You most probably need to only replace your front pads, and have the rotors resurfaced. I just changed my rear pads for the first time in 7 years/85K miles and 90% wear on them. Even then i didnt need new rotors, just resurfacing.

As far as the pads wearing out and hurting the rotors, dont the dealers check your brake system with every oil change? They should be able to tell you when your pads are getting close to replacing before you damage your rotors. Even my ford dealer does that!

they might on average need to be resurfaced every 2~3 pad changes.

you can tell yourself. If they are warped you can tell by lightly pressing the brakes at slow speeds to see if they engage then let go.
Also take your finger and feel around the edge of the rotor. is there a lip? If there is a lip then you may want to consider either having your rotors turned (machined) or replaced. Usually though, rotors can be turned once or twice before replacing.
