StopTechs so expensive!

I'm down for getting new brakes. I really want them to make the car feel safer during hard braking. But really, 5 grand for fronts and rears? I mean come on, that's ridiculous.

I could get a super charger for that, and that's a hell of a lot more fun.

Please provide a link to a site that has them for a bit cheaper. There must be an affordable set of Stoptechs out there that won't kill my budget. Maybe a group buy or something?

Sorry, not a very informative thread, just frustrated at prices is all.

They're a very high quality product that has a lot of R&D behind it. You gotta pay to play man. Maybe you should just get those fake, plastic caliper covers?

Well I will definately be buying brakes as my next mod. My stupid rear ones squeak and check this out, I take it to the dealer and they tell me I have aftermarket front pads!?? The car had 12 K when I got it?? From day one, the car has been an ok braker, but from high speeds you can tell the brakes are not up to par.

So with that said, and with the memory of how well my 01 Celica GTS used to stop on a dime, the G definately needs some more stopping power. Stoptech has been the choice of many and seems to be the available choice here.

So slotted or cross drilled. I think cross drilled looks better and has less fade, but slotted has better braking force with more surface area?

to save money, why dont you just get a StopTech front bbk, and buy new rear brakepads?..that should increase your braking while not breaking prolly more than 3k

Im thinking of that for sure. I would like to get all 4 going eventually, but you think it would be ok to just do the fronts? I've read it will make the rears wear down quicker. Plus, wouldn't buying as a set be cheaper?

i think what you need is more aggressive pads and stainless steel lines. from what i understand, a bbk only helps under track conditions where you experience break fade under high heat.

I wonder if the 06 dual piston calipers/rotors are a bolt up deal?

Alan hit it right on the head. If this is just a daily driver and you don't plan on tracking the car at all then all you need is more aggressive pads and stickier tires. No need for a BBK unless you want it for looks as well. The common misconception is that brakes stop your car. It's the tires that stop your car, your brakes only slow you down.

What year is your G? The brakes on my 05 have been great even at high speeds and I think the quality of the pads on the 05 is far superior to prior years. I'm guessing you have an 03 or 04?
