Should I LOWER on 20" wheels

I have 20"s on my G and they look sick, i want a better ride but i was wondering if lowering makes my ride worse. Take into consideration I live in NEW ORLEANS and the roads are not always the greatest, alot of dips and pot holes. Worried about messing my ride up. PLEASE HELP! TEIN BASICS GOOD OR H-TECH WHAT?
