Brembo maintenance

Has anyone had their brembo pads replaced yet? As in, it was time for some new pads?
The reason I ask is b/c Circle Infiniti in Long Branch NJ is trying to tell me that my brakes will need to be replaced soon (which is true), but that because they are brembo's, they cannot just swap out the pads with new ones and will have to replace the entire setup: rotors and pads. They quoted me at about $3,000.
I think they are full of crap. I've NEVER heard of a brake setup where the pads cannot be replaced independently of the rotors.
I have found brembo pads online for about $60 a piece. Why can i not just buy 4 of those and get them swapped out? It doesn't make sense to me. Can someone please explain this?

they're taking you on a ride buddy. Do it yourself. Buying top of the line pads and rotors wouldn't cost you that much. Actaully, you could probably buy a whole new brake system for that. LOL!

+1 You can buy a new BBK if you wanted to... buy that pads and rotors yourself... if you dont want the rotors atleast get them resurfaced... and find a local G35driver.com DIY person to help you or im sure someone here can direct you to a place to install them

You should go tell your Infiniti Dealer to F$%K off too. Then do it yourself.

Disk brakes are soo easy to change, it's not even funny.

Just did mine, turned the rotors and replaced the pads, no problems. The brembo rotors have a groove cut into the outside edge of the rotor, I'd assume this is the minimum they allowed to be turned down to before you have to buy a new set. And my dealer quoted me 450 for the front and that was just pads. I did the whole thing for less than 250. I would have let them do it if the price was reasonable, but yours is definitely trying to bluff you. GL.

I will probably do it myself too. So what pads did you get? OEM or aftermarket? And how do the brakes work now? Same as before?

I go to Circle Infiniti in Long Branch also, so I will ask them, but most likely I will just buy the pads. I'm not too thrilled with the Service people working there. I used to see a girl there and she was very nice and helpfull.
How much should I be paying for the pads at the dealer?

Seriously bro, i would not buy the factory pads and rotors from any infiniti dealership...trust me. Whenever people come in to my dealership and need brembo pads and rotors we always offer them factory setup and the hawk pads and stillen x-drilled and slotted setup as an alternative. I can tell you that 9 times out of 10 we wind up using the hawk/stillen combo. I think you can pick up the pads and some blanks(rotors) off of tirerack.com pretty cheap.

I think what they meant was that those rotors probably aren't meant to be resurfaced, and if your rotors have grooves, you should resurface them. But since you can't resurface those rotors, you have to replace them. Now I'm not 100% sure if you can cut those rotors or not. I know Benz, Audi, etc. you aren't suppose to cut the rotors. $3k sounds like waaay too much, but I'll tell you this much. I work at a shop, and my cost on those rotors from Infiniti are not pretty. I just got my G in the beginning of the year, and one of my rotors has a deep groove dead center on the backside of it. It looks like a defect from the pad. I was going to try to fix it myself, but when I saw the price on those things I almost passed out. Needless to say, I'm gonna try to warranty it. I have Brembo's too by the way.

Check this out:

I have never seen anything like this happen before.

I ordered OEM Brembo pads on-line. Do a search and find a good source. Plenty of people sell them for a good price. The dealer wanted almost a 100% markup on the pads alone. I love the feel of the brembo's and didn't like some of the reviews the hawk pads got, but to each his own. I wasn't talking about a groove in the face of the rotor, I'm talking about a factory groove on the thin wall of the rotor. Like I stated, I believe it's there to mark the minimum cut on the rotor, I didn't worry about it too much because the garage I took it too mic'd it to make sure it could be turned. I'm sure next time I'll have to buy rotors, but these rotors can be turned if they are not in bad shape. I'd have a hard time believing these are a one-time use part.

You didn't say how many miles you have. At 27,000, my Brembo pads were shot, but I insisted the dealer (Pepe in White Plains, NY) cut my rotors and replace pads, unless he was willing to officially confirm the rotors were dangerous and absolutely had to be replaced. He backed off, cut the rotors, replaced the pads, all for about $600 (expensive, but not fatal). I'm up to 37,000 miles now and have had no problems. Assuming I'll have to replace everythink at around 50000, the tire rack catalogue has drilled brembo rotors and pads that I intend to buy and have the dealer install. Though I like to do some things myself, I don't want the risk/responsibility of doing my own brakes.

1. Go flick off your Inifiniti dealership and spit on their showroom.

2. Follow the good advice that has been given thus far on this thread.

3. Save money and be happy!!!

Good luck!
