Brembo pad replacement

Ice Pick to push out the pins after removing cottar pins

Push back pads with towel and large pliers

Remove shims

Watch brake fluid level

Clean parts

Apply brake squeal reducer on back of pads and shims and insert after 10 minutes

Cottar pin

Place spring and insert second pin and cottar

Done

Move to the back...but now the pins come towards you

Use 130 or so grit to sand the rust from the hubs where the wheels make contact and clean the old brake material off of the rotors...per instructions on hawk hps sight. Now bed your pads per manufactures directions. Mine were approx 8 moderate force stops from 35 and 2-3 hard stops from 45, then let brakes cool.

i agree. great pics, nice write-up! just reinforces the service manual. i didn't know you could use big pliers like that to push the pistons back in. thanks!

oh, by the way, is it necessary to resurface the rotors before the installation of new pads?

An Inifiniti mechanic told me that you cannot turn Brembo rotors. I sanded off the rotors with 100 grit sandpaper with medium pressure to get off some of the old pad material. It was impossible to sand the back of the rear calipers dure to the full dust shields. I have finally had a chance to drive the car for a few days with no vibration or squealing.

Gotta love how easy the Brembos are. When I had them on my Z I got it down to 40 minutes to jack up the car remove all wheels, replace pads, put weels back on, and drop the car back down to the ground. I used to change between street and track pads all the time Good write up.

As far as I know, they play a role in heat transfer so you may want to check and make sure your pads haven't melted to the caliper pistons lol.

The shims are there to keep the pads quiet. If not replaced it could cause squeaking even if brake quiet is installed. They seem to have some sort of plastic coating and they sit between the back of the pad and the piston. I'd imaging that the metal to metal may make noise when the shim is not in between them.

thanks for good writeup and pics. i chaged my pads on my 03 coupe w/brembos. on one rear brake, i've lost the two cotter key-like things that go in each pin. anyone know if you can get these at a hardware, autoparts store or are they "speical" only available thru infiniti??!?!!?
any input is appreciated as it's a beautiful sunday and would love to go for a drive!!

Contact Justin in the parts department at Infiniti of Scottsdale. There is a good chance he will be able to help you out.

So if the pins come at you on the rear brakes does that mean you have to hammer them out with the ice pick on the side toward the wheelwell?
