Question "In-and-out" procedure at the dealership

Today I was talking to a salesperson at one of the Infiniti dealerships in the area and she said that the dealership can do an "in-and-out" thing for me, which means that they can participate as a proxy when I sell my car to a private party, do all the paperwork, and save me the sales tax same way as if I traded this car in to them. For example, I can find somebody who is willing to buy my car. We go to this dealership, they facilitate our deal at the price the two of us agreed upon, and then I purchase my new car from the dealership but pay the sales tax from the difference between what the buyer paid me and the price of the new car. To me it looks like a win-win situation. Do I miss something? Is it a popular procedure? This is the first time I hear about it.

First time I've have ever heard of this, but it seems like the dealer is trading in a small amount of time for this service on the paperwork, which you can do yourself, for a garuntee (sp) sale.

Just make sure that the paper work doesn't say you sold the car to the dealership and then the dealership sold the car to the guy because that means the dealer has your money (which might make it harder on the bargining table)...too tired to type out the rest of my post.....

Newport BMW does this... Esp. with M3's, when people realize that they wasted 60+k on a car that is worth half that.

basically, you are finding them a buyer. you're doing their work.

one of the dealerships offered me the same thing, they said if i can find someone to buy my car at the price they're looking for, i can get a new car at the price i want. my situation was a lease.

similar situation, yet different.

Just stating a personal opinion. After driving it, I wasn't impressed. Maybe it was the tin can sounding exhaust, the lack of torque, the 12" long throw shifter?

Sad.
