06 Coupe to 08 Coupe: Does this sound like a bad plan?

Well, my 2006 G35 coupe 6MT is currently a 3 year lease.

Only reason I leased it was the fact that:

1. Wanted to keep the monthly payments as low as possible

and

2. Didnt want to buy a "new" coupe since a newly redesigned coupe is due next year

Now, although it is a bit too early to speculate, how does this sound to you:

I am planning on trading/swapping my lease for a 2008 G35 coupe, continuing the lease or "releasing" it for 2 or 3 years. After the lease is over, I plan on buying the [2008 G35 coupe] out with the buy-out option.

Why am I doing this?

Well, once again, trying to keep the monthly payments as possible until I greaduate with my degree in Engineering.

So, for you knowledgeable and experienced buyers/leasers out there, what are the pros and cons of my plan?

Im a bit worried about paying way more in the long term than what I would have normally paid if I would have just boughten the 08 Coupe.

PS. Sorry for the my confusing plan.and thanks for any help!

I leased my 06 coupe for 1 year with the intention of getting the new coupe next year. It's been 6 months and I've lowered it, put a front lip on and a rear spoiler lip. Wheels can easily come off but the other stuff is more problematic. I like the car so much I'm thinking of keeping it. Who cares about chasing new cars. I got this one and it's sweet. If I do one more mod the thinking is over. I've decided to just enjoy the car the next 6 months and make a decision when the time comes.

I know exactly what you mean.

I too have the "Mod Bug" and couldnt stand seeing it stock, so have done some minor modifications.

Im waiting to see how great the next coupe is... which has led me to the plan I previously stated.

My question regarding my plan isnt whether its a smart choice or not due to the current greatness of the current coupe, but more of a financial and legal concern

Errmmm I would keep it.. Or wait till the new one comes out...
Unless you are super rich and able to afford new cars whenever you want...
(crosses finger to win the lottery)
but like you said... by the time the 08 coupe comes out another year later another new "cool" car will come out.. then another and another etc..

Not really.

Im planning on keeping the 08 Coupe for atleast 5 to 6 years... and im sure a "New G35 Coupe" will not be anywhere near site for atleast another 4 years.

Its not like if im paying anything extra or out of the ordinary... that's the thing with leases.

Less likley there will be "bugs" since the platform and much of the equipment will be taken from the '07 sedan. That allows some time for any tweaking necessary.

Good point, exactly what I was thinking.

It also helps that the new Coupe will only be a "refreshining" of the current coupe.

You are definitely going to pay more for that 08...They are going to tell you all the good things that can be done and....BAM when you sit down with that dealer you are going to be upside down!! They are gonna check out the car to see what it is worth, what is your lease term agreement and you will pay for breaking that lease! The good thing is that your car is new! Try to keep the miles down! Personally I would keep the 06 for atleast 2years..By that time you will have 12 mos. left and you could get out of it easier!!!My lease is up in aug 07,if they dont have a new coupe by then,I will ride around in my good ole 93 maxima til that CAMARO comes out!!

I am in a 12 month lease with an 06 coupe as well with the same mentality of getting the new coupe next year. My lease is up in September, so hopefully all the price gouging will go down and availability will be up. (Only 1 dealership in metro detroit)

But like someone else said, there will be plenty new "cool" cars coming out. I am personally waiting to see what the Audi A5 coupe will look like, mostly because i love Audis and would like to try the Germans this time. Plus Quattr0 would be nice in the snow and its a very "grown up" car.

I've drivin the new 07 sedan and love it, so it will be hard to turn down the new coupe when my lease is up. I'm also eligible for a GM, Nissan, AND Audi discount from my empolyer, so my choice will most likely be between the 08 coupe, 08/09 A5 coupe (hopefully its released) and possible a C6 corvette coupe (depending on lease deals).

I tested the '07 335i last month and have been trying like mad for weeks to find an 07 6MT G sedan to test, up here in the northeast all the dealers are saying it will take 4 + weeks into the new year to get their hands on 1.

I agree it would be hard to give up any G, but the specs on the '08 are too unknown to make up your mind until the day you see it for yourself. All that is know is specualtion, 12 month old pics from last year's autoshow circut, and no hard facts on the beast under the hood just yet.

I am betting (more like hoping) that Infiniti got wind of the '07 335's HP output and maybe put some extra effort into doing more then just the 306 HP listed for the '07 sedan. Likewise, I am dying to get my hands on the '08 ASAP, but alas we have to wait longer, and that 335 was really nice off the line, but I still can't justify $42k base for a car that dose not offer really satisfying styling. It's fast, but is it good looking enough? I am waiting now for the coupe arrival and will settle my buying decision this summer.

Good luck...... I am just as unsure today myself about what ride I will finally land.....
