Common part failures, faq?

Hello All,

I've been doing some research into the G35 and wanted to know common parts that fail.

I'm looking at the 2003 year. I've read that the TB may fail, the clicking axels, the clutch sensor failing, excessive brake ware, and buzzes and rattles so parts must losen?

Would it be possible to put together a G35 buyers faq that lists common problems and what to look for?

This would help in bargening with the dealership.

Thanks for the help!

If you're planning on negotiating a better price by convincing the dealer that the car is prone to failure, I'm afraid you're going about it all wrong.

If I know the common problems then I can find how much it will cost by calling the dealer. I use this to help negotiate the price. For instance a car may pass a safety test but can only have a years worth of brakes left, thus I include the fact that I will have to spend x to get the brakes done. Same with tires and so on…

I think it would be foolish to buy a car and not take into account the amount that might have to be spent over the next few years of ownership.

All I'm saying is that in a price negotiation the seller's price is driven mostly by what he thinks he can get for the car from other buyers. Your position has to come from what you can get a comparable car for from other sellers (the seller also knows this). It does you little good to discount the selling price for specific repair risk in a negotiation with one seller when he knows what comparable cars are selling for, there and elsewhere. It's obviously different if there's something actually wrong with the car right now.

The risk and cost of fufure repairs might be a useful exercise to help you decide if you want to buy a particular car - my original point was that it will be of limited value as a negotiating point.

Good luck on your purchase.
