Where to get insurance?

Looking to buy a G35 next month. I'm 22, and this will be my first car. Am I allowed to get the insurance under someone else? For example, my dad? He has like five cars he pays insurance for, and I'm assuming that he will be able to get full coverage for a lot cheaper. I want to pay the whole year upfront. Since I'm young, I can only imagine how much I will have to pay if I get insurance under my name, so I was wondering about the other method.

Another thing, is there a way I can get free quotes without the Insurance agencies pulling my credit report?

Try esurance.com, 21st.com, insweb.com for the quotes...if it ask for your SS number? just skip it.

First of all having the car insured under someone else and not you is not only stupid but it's illegal.

Now if you put YOUR dad as you say as the primary and you as an occasional driver, then yes, you can do that and will save SOME money, although it's still going to be expensive because 1. You are under 25 and 2. (depends on your driving record).

I suggest having your dad call his current insurance to get a quote, since i'm assuming he's been with them for a while most likely they will give him the better rates.
You could also check www.insurance.com they give you quotes through different companies and let you pick the cheapest.

Any tickets, traffic violation etc..DUI, reckless driving...Your dad can add you as a driver on his policy. He needs to be on the registration too for him to insure the car...

In order for the car to be under your dad's insurance he is going to have to go to the dealer with you and be on the contract as well as the registration. The car cannot be under your name and yet be under your dad's insurance or have ANY insurance under his name.

So take him with you, have him co-sign for you, and have him put you on the policy

You can have your dad insure it but you still need to be listed as a possible driver or at least in the same home. I did that until I was 21.

I had similar and the car was insured with my parents cars and got a group rate. Ask your father to see if the company/broker he has insurance with can put you in as either another drive or the sole driver of that vehicle but still have the vehicle under the group rate with the others. They might be able to do this if you live in the same household. These things may vary state to state on the laws of who can be under what.

As for the rest of it, my dad was on the registration I was on the title. This caused lots of crazyness when I moved from NY to CA. They kept telling me here in California that it's not possible for my name to be on the title and my father as the registered person to it. I kept showing them the documents that stated such and they were saying they couldn't register it like that. They asked if I can get my father to come in. I said, sure, I'll have him on the next flight across the country (not really). So I had to send documents to my father and have him send them back. It was such a hassle.

If you, your parents or grandparents were ever in any type of US Armed Services go with USAA. It's not only cheap, but they send you a refund check at the end of every year.

I actually found Progressive is cheaper for me with the same policy. They work out the same if I pay monthly but progressive gives a discount for paying 6 months at a time.
