Local Neg price vs VPP vs Out of state
First post here, been reading on/off for last 18 months, much good stuff here. Looked at several cars over the last year but I just can't take my eyes off the G's, that and I have finally accepted that I can't justify a GT-R. I'm looking to hear other experiences and recommendations about making this purchase, local or out of state. Any personal experances with these dealers would be apprecated as well.
In the Seattle Metro area there are two dealerships, common ownership group. I've seen many recent threads on here that they are unwilling to budge on price, typical deal no better than $500 below MSRP. I have access to VPP and don't mind ordering if they don't have what I want on the lot.
Is the dealer required to honor VPP? Would I be required to order or take from stock to use it? I seem to recall once you mention VPP, that is the only deal on the table. Best time to ask about it?
Out of state versus VPP? Seems to me that when one includes shipping / transportation costs, VPP is still pretty hard to beat.
I did notice last night when I checked the VPP site, G37 are now eligible for VPP, so I would assume that 08 Sedans are as well. Two weeks ago, G37 was excluded when I checked.
Thanks,
robosdr

Is VPP totally dealer descretion?
So I went and test drove a G35s 6MT and G35x yesterday. While I really miss driving a stick, I'm leaning to the G35x. So I asked about the sport package and when it would be available. In mid - late December I can drive one they should have one on the lot. I also clarified timing, process and such if I wanted to order one.
Then I ask about VPP. First words,
"is totally up to dealer descrestion.." "... G37 we will still not honor VPP...regardless of what it says on the web site...." "...sport package is new on the x, we may not honor VPP on those vehicles..."
I was a little bit taken aback by the quick change in tone. I never expressed interest in the G37, so why state flat out that you will not honor VPP on it?
The sales person went on to say that the manager in charge of VPP would be the one who would make the decision about honoring the sport package ... and then it was the price would be something just over VPP pricing. I thought that was the whole purpose of VPP, it is not a negotiated price! Seems like they are trying to pick and choose what parts of VPP is good for them.
So I come home and do a little more reading of what I could find any language on the vpp site. One line on there says "Participating dealers" . Maybe that is all they need. It would seem to me, they are either participating or not, it is a fixed price or not.
The sales person bragged a bit about how many folks from Canada come down and pay MSRP each month. I know right now for those that make the trek down it is quite a good deal. I guess that could influence the dealer's decision to give those customers priority over anyone who comes in with VPP.
I will call Nissan VPP line on Monday and ask a few more questions, see if they can clarify for me. I'm just a bit bothered by the pick and choose stance I got from the sales person yesterday. The VPP person was not there yesterday so I may get a different response come next week.

Called VPP 1 800 number on Monday and was told that participation in VPP is strictly a local dealership decision. They can pick and choose by model and feature apparently. Sounds to me like it is still a negotiated sale if the dealer chooses to participate that way.
