Should I get Extended Warranty on used 04 G35 6mt w/48k miles
They're asking $2500 for 3 year 36k miles for extended warranty w/$100 deductible for each visit. In my mind I should but is the price right? Seems kinda high. I'm picking up the car tomorrow so let me know what you guys think. TIA!
I contemplated that same thing, but I decided not to because I'll take the chance that I won't need $2000 in warranty repairs in the next 3 years. Also have a couple friends whose G's are out of warranty, and they said they passed on the extended warranty, and haven't had any issues once the car was out of warranty. $2500 for 3y/36K seems very high though....
Answer some questions:
1. Will you keep the car for the next 3-4 yrs?
If no, then, either you move to #2 or better you dont need the warranty.
2. Is the warranty easily transferrable to the next owner?
If yes, you can use it as leverage when you sell your car.
In my opinion, I wouldn't get it... i will take the risk on the G assuming I am keeping the car no more than 3-4 yrs. Now if it was a Audi/BMW/Merc bascially a german car i would for sure be leaning highly towards getting extended warranty, because historically german cars cost more to repair when out of warranty than say a japanese car, and also more prone to breakdowns. The G has shown to hold good long term quality standards and the breakdowns are not very common (2nd assumption: that you dont drive it like you stole it).
The price seems about right for the coverage towards higher end of the range, but thats what you get when buying coverage at the end of the warranty period. To make things clear ask the coverage provider what is NOT covered instead of what is covered with the warranty quote given to you.
