Tax and Tags $$$?

Hey, Well I am in the market to buy a G but am not sure about some things like Tax and Tags. I am a new driver that has never bought/had my own car so I am new to the process. I was just curious last night but couldn't ask my dad since he is out on the boat.

If I was to buy a G for $18,000 or $20,000, How much would the tax and tags run me? I live in Philadelphia, PA if it matters.

When I was in the process of buying my G, I was curious about that too. I just went to the California DMV website and they had a calculater that calculated that stuff. See if they have one for the state you are in.

it's huge here. my was 28.5 sticker, over 32k out the door. Get the loan insurance. If you wreck it on the way home from the dealer you are already upside down on the loan.

Yea, I couldn't find the calculator. I will go look again but on the dmv website. I am also paying cash so would that be a factor? Pretty confusing process if its your first time with no guidance. Dad will be home in 5 days so that doesnt help. Thanks man!

EDIT** I couldn't find that calculator on the dmv website. Nor anywhere else.

I don't know if these links will help you any....if I was in your situtation, I would just call the local dmv office and ask them for an estimate or how to go about figuering out the registration fee. As for taxes for the car, its the price of the car you buy it for + whatever the sales tax is in your city. At least that's how it was for me. Have you looked into how much insurance is going to be for you?

Yes I saw insurance. But I just figured $560/month for the car is fine. Thats gas+insurance. Yea I saw those links, I think the title is ~$22. So I guess tax will be 6% out of philly and 7% in philly. Thanks for your help man!

Wait so you do not have to pay tax if it is a private sale? Atleast that is what I am told.

Mike@RiversideInfiniti, is it true OR illegal for the Seller to put a lower sold for price on the pink slip so the Buyer can pay fewer taxes on the vehicle?

Not Legal, obviously.

That's the same as a dealer saying you paid less for a car, so you can pay less in registration and tax.
