2008's after 2009's
2008's after 2009's
New member, have noted changes to 2009 now G37 sedan including engine/7 speed auto, etc. While only a few noticable minor exterior changes, the powertrain along renders new 2008's on dealer lot less valuable not to mention 2007 and 2008 used vehicles. It is true that monthly payment and lease qualifications will push some eager buyers into 2008's, a cash buyer faces the challenge of determining value of a new 2008. One local dealer has 95 in inventory, another 50 when 2009's are right around the corner. So the question: Not what's fair the the buyer and not what's fair to the dealer but what is the Sept 15 value of a new base 2008 G35. With 2009 G37 sedans on lots, is the difference 10%, 20%, 25%? This question does not consider what dealers will sell them for, I've seen new 2006's on lots along side new 2008's, dealers have a right to hold old inventory as long as they want. Thanks for your comments.
But it looks very similar with new side mirrors, trunk lid plus new drivetrain. So my open question still remains: When I trade my 2008 g35 purchased Sept 15, 2008 in 2012, assuming same miles and condition as a 2009 g37 purchased Sept 15, 2008, I'll be offered perhaps $4,000 less, maybe $5,000 less. If public response to the new 2009 content is strong, maybe $6,000-$7,000 less. Then there is the real and perceived lower value of year and content at time of purchase. In our local market there are at least 400 new 2008 G's in inventory today, each one losing value daily. So Mike at Riverside Infinity, what is the real value of a 2008 g35 base in 3 weeks?
I don't know? If I could tell the future, I'd be working the stock market
What I can tell you, is that 05 and 04 G35 sedans also have a face lift/powertrain update in between them, and they're less than $2000 dollars apart when it comes to resale value, and the 04's are 4 years old now, similar to a 08 in 2012.

Influence of 2009 G37 Sedan is now seen in new 2008 G37 pricing. In my experience Edmunds' TMV pricing represents reasonable averages of what buyers are actually paying. Not perfect, it does not key only on invoice but demand and supply in the market and actual selling prices. The just introduced Hyundai Genesis TMV is close to list although some think they can always buy 'at invoice'; it is in high demand and relatively low supply. TMV of a new 36k 2008 G35 premium is just over 32k. While it does not report the high and lows (regional), we can assume about half recent purchase prices it gathers are higher, half are lower. With large inventories here in Chicago area and slow demand, think I'll wait until Oct to see both the new G37 Sedan and what dealers will need to price 08's to sell. While we can't know what dealer will sell an 08 for in October, we can be certain he'll sell it for less in November, December, January.
