+1.

To afford a G you're going to need a good job bro. This isn't your base level Nissan which sells for under $25k. But...seeing as you're going for an 05/06...you're going to be buying a 1st gen used one...so you might be able to put like $5k down, finance another $15k and get payments to about $250-300/month.

I'm lucky in that I'm 21 but have been in the IT business since I was 16 (first couple of years was basic tech/intern) and make around $45k a year. I'm approaching debt free life (estimated time of arrival is Feb. 2009) and at that point I will be selling my low mileage 99 Maxima and getting an 08 G35xS or 09 G37xS.

Or...you can just work for your car payment...be smart man.

Go to school, finish school, start your career, then think about a luxury car.

+1 with finishing school and what not but....

if you really want a G. why not trade in your 07 Sentra? Or sell it to a private party? That would be a HUGE down payment if you find a G for around 20k area.

Look. I feel everyone is just trying to discourage this guy from getting the car we all love so much... why? If he is in college and can pull the grades and as* and still make the payments then why not?? I agree with selling the sentra. If you get a used G for a good price then ur sentra should pay a huge chunk of the car. Yes you will burn through tires. Yes you will have 80 oil changes unless you do it yourself. Yes you may have to replace the clutch or even start modding the car but that makes it so much more meaningful and special in the end. When it comes down to it, the G is a great car and you should deff. get one if you think you could....

No mention of insurance costs...makes me think the car isn't in his name which would make selling the Sentra a bit difficult since it's likely under parental control.

Assuming a 250-300/mon car payment, you'd need a '05 selling for 16-17k, 7k down payment and you'd wind up in the 250 range on a 48 month loan at 8.5%. You prob wouldn't get a much better rate than this unless your parents bought it since its used and going to 60 mon would lower the payment but you'd be paying for a 200/mon plus full coverage insurance on a 9yr old car w/ likely over 100k on the clock. If you can actually sell the Sentra and put it all toward a G, you'd probably pull it off (with significant losses on the Sentra) but otherwise you're definitely in a stretch if all you can afford is a sub 350 payment not factoring all the other costs of ownership.

My parents got me a new Prelude when I started college but since I transferred to a NY school, I wound up taking my 10yr old Accord instead and left it for my younger brother. College campuses just take a toll on your car. Between jumping it Bullit style, hauling 6 drunk friends home and the lack of safe parking your car will go through absolute hell. Yeah it was kind of weird to have a 4yr old Prelude w/ sub 15k miles but I got another 3+ yrs out of it before buying a G.

Finish school w/o the extra job, focus on your grades, and buy a new G37 when you land the high paying job and have bought a place. Trade in your Sentra then when it's not really worth much but it's taken the brunt of 4 yrs of campus parking.

any g35 will bring you wealth and fame beyond your imagination... get one...
Live, Learn... and be stuck with the bill for 5 years...

It will just be alot more expensive over your sentra.. people dont realize what the cost start running into to maintain a 4 - 5 year old entry level sport luxury car... LOL its the little things that are now bigger things in your wallet..

Hey I was in the same position as you. Im in college right now and I bought a used 06 g35 coupe. I paid full in cash so I have no payments to worry about but the insurance + gas kinda sucks for the coupe (but atleast gas prices are down!). My car has not needed any repairs except an oil change.

What really drains the pocket's is when you start modding the car. But the positives outweigh the costs in my opinion. Your in college just like me, so its the fun years of life and you want to be driving around in a fun car. Everytime I see my car in the parking lot a have a big smile. But be careful where you park in college cause some people may not give a sh*t about your car and swing their door open and dent your car (happened to me the first week of college).

If you think you can land a job that lets you pay off a g35 then get it. If you dont think you can make the money, ask your parents for a loan and pay them back or sell your sentra. I was fortunate enough to have the money for my G but if I could go back, I would have bought a porsche xD.

Blah blah blah... Lifes too short to not drive a G when there still newish... Of course there will be times you say I wish I had no car payment, but I bet the amount of times you say, I wish I drove an Infiniti G Coupe, will outweigh that...
You can easily find an 05 coupe for that price range ($350 a month) with 0 down... Just look around for at least a few weeks...
The car will take around $700-$800 a month...
To me that is going out to eat 5 times, going to the casino 2 times and going to the club 3 times... :P
I just halved my partying...

wait, let me get this straight, if you buy a used g, like year 04 or 05 from ebay or craigslist... do you have to make payments? besides insurance??

If you buy a car on ebay or craigslist you would most likely be paying in full. If you see one that you like, I would go check it out. If you want it, I would get pre-approve from a credit union or a bank or even on line (captialone.com) If you go on-line and get approve from (for example, captialone.com), they will sent you a check and you can give it to the owner. And about payments, you will be making payements to the bank/creditunion/ online services.... I love my car! It's my first MT and I'm getting the hang of it.
