Trade value?

Okay so in order to get my G35, I need to trade in my 2005 Toyota Solara, mileage 99500. It has been maintained with synthetic oil. I want a G35 coupe 6MT. . . what do you think the trade in value would be? Do you think I could trade my Solara directly for a G35 without paying extra?

1. Location makes a difference. I'll assume you are in NJ because that's what my numbers would apply to.

2. Even trade would depend on what year and how many miles you are willing to accept on the G.

3. Value on your Solara varies greatly depending on WHICH MODEL.

Crystal ball is foggy, but if you have an SE sport coupe V6 with stick, its worth all of about $6k on a trade. Only the crappiest, highest mileage G is going to fit that budget. An SLE convertible, OTOH, would be worth round about $9k-$9500. Still not looking at much of a G ... but maybe could swing an '03 auto stripper coupe with 99k miles for even up ... if you can find one.

Without looking I'd say you got these numbers from KBB or Nada. Well most likely they will not ACV the car that high. Most dealerships go by auction reports such as Manheim Reports. KBB and Nada are simply guides, Manheim reports actually tells the dealer what they WILL get when they sell that car at auction and what others are getting right now all over the state for the same car. With that being said auction prices/wholesale usually will be a bit less than trade-in value, Actual Cash Value will be determined by manheim usually, they can always show more for your trade but they are just playing with the numbers. If the G35 you are looking at they are asking $20K.. lets say they bought it for $17K. They have 3K room to play with. Your trade is worth 7K, but you want more for your trade so they say fine we will give you 8K. They are not really giving you 8K, if your car ACV's for 7K that's what it's worth to you, to them, to auction, to anyone and thats it, so by them giving you 8K is because all this time you could have negotiated from 20K to 19K.

Anyway all that was to give you a better understanding how trade-ins work as far as how dealerships value the cars etc. But to answer your question most likely you will not be able to trade straight across with no money for a G35.....at least one that runs anyway

Good luck

Galves, actually, which is based on auction values and usually quite accurate (I've compared to Manheim on many occassions); however, only typically used by dealers in the northeast, which is why I commented on location and how my numbers apply in NJ.

Oh yeah Galves is ok. Adesa is also a wonderful tool.

I believe so, I'm in the Pacific Northwest and Adesa is mainly east coast so I don't know too much about it but its a great system.
