Altima vs G35
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm in a somewhat similar situation. I'm debating between an '08 Altima 2.5 SL with 22,000 miles that I can get for ~$14k, or an '06 G35x with 35,000 miles that I can get for ~$17k.
It would seem the G is a no brainer, but I just can't shake the 2 year difference, although not a ton different in mileage. I drive a lot (20k+ miles per year), so the gas mileage is a slight concern, as is tire wear - which I have been reading is a problem in the G35. Not really looking forward to replacing tires every year or so.
Decisions, decisions!
As for yours, as stated above, if I already had the Altima and finances were somewhat an issue, I would probably stick with it.

The only reason your tires would wear out fast is if you don't get regular alignments. G's and Z's need alignments every 10k miles, MINIMUM. At $60/pop it's no reason to skip out on, plus you'll get better mileage and the steering will be much more nuetral.
Plus, more horse power = more tire wear. Stop being a leadfoot if you care about tires and MPG's
Change your oil every 3k, align every 10k... you will go WELL past 100k on a G. I'm running 9psi of boost at almost 50k miles (10k boosted) and burning ZERO oil.

First of all there's no comparision between G and Altima. Altima may have some benefits over G like mileage but other than that they are 2 different worlds.
Anyways, coming to your question if you had asked this question before buying Altima then answer would be 'YES OF COURSE'. But after investing so much money I would stick with it for some time and when you feel really comfortable with the finances then switch.

my 2003 se-r ate its precat around 40,000 miles, most of my friend's with spec v's had it happen sooner then that, didnt really seem to happen to 04+ models much.
on the other hand when i bought my G with 67000 miles it was burning a good bit of oil and it needed a new motor too...maybe nissan just can't make piston rings anymore.
then again my rsx-s burnt a good bit of oil for the 70,000 miles i had it, as did my celica GT-S but I feel like with those cars it had more to do with the fact that they saw 8000+ rpms daily

Had a 1st gen Altima in 1994 which I liked a lot. (it was the best car I could afford then during divorce). I now hHave a 2003 G35 6MT Red w/black leather, Nav, premium etc. LOVE IT. Considered Altima as second car, until I sat in it. I'm 6'2" so my long legs splay out in the foot well. As my right leg rested against the side of the center console, the whole think warped and went from square to rhombus. The opening around ash tray got all elongated and the whole unit moved about 1/2" to the right. The ashtray wouldn't open as long as my leg was against the side of the console. Cheap, cheap, cheap construction. I figure after about a week of that the console would be permanently warped out of shape and cracks would soon follow at the stress points. I didn't buy it and bother to find out. I don't want a car where the dash or console have "give" when my leg touches them. My G is solid as a rock. The Atlima just doesn't have the fit and finish of the G. The materials aren't as robust in the Altima.

I've used to have an infiniti g35; I loved that car. One night I drank a lot and ended up totaling the g35 and 140-150 mph. I decided to get a slower car, so i picked up an 09 altima 4 banger.
Even though they have similar technology they're way different cars. If you want a g35 you can pick one fully loaded around 21 grand as long as it's a few years old.
Pros v. cons
The infiniti g35 and g37 look a lot better than the altima. theI steering wheel in the g35 comes down and foreward to you when you start the car. I hear less noise in the altima, but g would play loud music without the doors rattling. Overall the g series are far superior to the altima. The g series get terrible gas milage though, I got around 17.9 mpg all the time in the city. With my altima I get around 30 in the city. Insurance is a lot cheaper for the altimas. Overall the g series are a better choice if you want a ton of power and luxury.

I could never recommend the Altima to anyone after having a friend find that her precat got sucked up into her engine and started burning oil at around 100k miles. I don't know if nissan did anything to prevent this on the current gen Altima, but it was apparent to me that nissan engineered the car to last 100k miles and that's it. My friend traded it (2002 with 120k miles) in for a new RAV4 a few months ago and 2 months later got a call from Florida Highway Patrol saying it was abandoned on the interstate. The next owner must have been pissed to say the least.

Totally true I had a 2002 altima 2.5s with 100k and I was putting a quart of oil every week until the engine gave up. I had to replace the engine with a 2006 and got rid of it as soon as I could. Now Im driving a 2005 G coupe 6mt and Im loving it.
yeah my 03 se-r did the same thing around 40k...almost all 02-03s will have that problem eventually. The harder you drive the sooner it happens because the precat breaks up faster, so people who babied their cars were out of luck because it happened after the warranty was up. I've never seen anything burn oil that fast, it was like a quart every 100 miles
