Looking to buy a used 05-07 coupe 6mt from a dealer

Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker on g35driver, and for the last 2 years I've been saving and waiting for enough money to get a g. Recently I've reached my goal.

I want to buy a stock, blue, red, or if i must, graphite, 05-07 coupe 6mt from a little old lady...but these are hard to come by.

I decided to try the easy way out and go to an infiniti dealer. Unfortunately, in upstate NY they don't stock these cars in the winter, or so they say. The dealership instead offered to look at the auctions for me, and if they found what I was looking for, they would buy it (suggesting I put down a $1000 good faith deposit) and once they got it at the dealer we could talk price and I could test drive...

Sounds like an easy way for a dealership to suggest they paid an arm and a leg and raise the price on me.

They have since found a stock, graphite, 06, w/ nav, aero, 19 in wheel, premium and sport packages w/ 19k miles. They estimate the price for me at around $21k but they have not bought it from the auction yet.

My questions are: Has anyone else had any success buying from a dealer with an auction car? What are things I should watch out for? Is a $1000 deposit reasonable, or is $200 more typical?

Also, what other ways can I find my G for sale (aside from craigslist) from a private party in upstate NY?

sounds like they want to rip you off. They have your 1k so you're stuck with them and they don't have to give it back to you since it's a deposit. Estimate a 21k price because they still want to pad on their profits. If it were me I wouldn't do it. I'd buy from a private seller and spend some money getting it looked over. About $100 per car to have it looked over. But wellworth it if you don't want to get ripped off at the stealership

I went to the dealer again today, they showed me pictures, a brief description, including a "clean" carfax, and a vehicle condition report all from Manheim. They still estimate my price to be around $21000. Before I left, they asked for a $100 ($900 less than before) good faith estimate, which I told them I would think about. Upon closer inspection of the condition report, which is rated 4/5 points, I noticed the interior condition is reported as "average", and the interior odor is labeled as "OK".

I suspect I have found a smoker's car. I will ask the dealer about it tomorrow, because if it smells, I will know and I won't buy it...why waste each other's time?

I seem to have the option of not paying the deposit.

Is 21k a good value for this car, assuming it does not smell bad? If it does smell bad, how much can I reduce the price by, and can I ever get the smell of smoke or pets or whatever makes a car smell "OK" instead of "average" out of the car?

wannascooby: Autotrader, Cars.com, and everywhere else I check seems to be full of dealers. Where can I find private party classifieds without having to sift though hundreds of dealer postings?

2006 MT Loaded with only 19k miles? I'd say 21k is a pretty good deal
