I test drove a 2003 G35 6MT with about 75,000 miles the other day. The car seemed ok but when I test drove it I noticed a couple of things. 1st when I got the car on the freeway I noticed a loud rattling which sounded like some kind of metal in the steering column. That cant be good, seller said he couldnt figure it out. Next, the transmission sounded like it was making a slight whining sound and would disappear when I pressed the clutch. Now my question is do other transmissions make this sound? This was my first time driving a g35. Any help is appreciated

 

never heard of these problems... but make sure to check the 60,000 mile checkup was good.... and look for the windows being able to roll up and down... also look for black in the exhaust (engine oil burning or running rich)...... just some of my issues and others ive read about

 

our trannies are loud as fack.! rattling metal in the steering column..? dunno bout that one..did you get a carfax..?

 

Yeah his passenger window was messed up. It would go down but when you try to roll it up it would go back down. But the seller said he was getting it fixed. Thanks for the heads up on the other problems.

Ok cool just checking if it was just his tranny or all g35s. The rattling metal sounded like it came from in front of me but im not sure if it was the steering column. I got the vin but didnt run a carfax because I was already gonna pass on it after the test drive.

 

When you mentioned tranny noise, is it similar to a whistling sound?

 

Yeah sort of. Is it normal?

 

I suggest you walk away from this one rather than trying to figure out what's wrong with the car. My 0.02.
