Prospective G35X Buyer...warning: longish post
Hi y'all
I've been researching the G35 for a couple of weeks and I'm 90% sure that I'm going to buy one. This will be my first sedan AND my first Infiniti/Nissan; my background has been Toyota/Lexus SUVs. I've got a 4Runner that has been my daily driver for almost ten years. She's still going extremely strong at ~150k miles (way better than my newer LX), but my little brother needs a vehicle. I'm actually sad about giving her up, but I'm also excited to move on to the G35.
I've got a couple of cars in my sights, but none of them are local. I'm in Tennessee and the ones I am eyeing are in Minnesota, Colorado, Virginia....Does anyone here have advice/experience to share about long-distance buying? I'd like to go in there armed with as much information as possible. I know they're probably going to try to pull a fast one because I'm female, but I'd like to go in there, get right down to business and drive off satisfied with the sale.
I'm only looking to fly out there once and drive the car back over the course of a weekend. Hopefully they'll let me take the car down to a mechanic to have it checked out for frame damage. I am restricting my choices to Infiniti certified pre-owned cars, but I'd still like a third party to take a look, unless y'all think it's a waste if the car is CPO?
Finally, mods. I'm still reading up on these. I'm trying to resist murdering it out, but I'm a huge fan of that look, so I might cave once I get started. So far, though, I think my only mods will be:
Tint - probably 20%
Sound - I have no clue where to start or what to buy. All I know is I need a sub and a better amp? I want a moderate amount of thump in the trunk.
Lowerage - I've read that decreasing that gap is better as far as handling goes, plus I like the look.

Welcome to the forums. Not sure if you're targeting a first gen (2003-2006) or a second gen (2007+) sedan?
Getthing a pre-purchase inspection done is always a good idea. On a CPO vehicle, tho, I'm not sure. You're paying extra for that designation so it should bulletproof - but not sure if that's enough for your piece of mind (it wouldn't for me). You can get a PPI done by a local (to the seller) Infiniti dealer or a service available in that area. Get an Autocheck report done vs. a carfax report.
Buying long-distance is tough, but it can be done. You just have to be 95% sure that the sedan you're flying out for is the one you'll wind up with or else if things go bad you're looking at either not being completely satisfied or wasting alot of money/time. I'd guess alot of pictures, a PPI done, and a good feeling/communication/deal done from whoever the seller is before flying out would eliminate alot of potential headaches.
Modding your car is strictly based on your budget and tastes. There are tons of examples on driver for everything you could possibly want to do to it. You just have to put in the time browsing through all the information/threads on here, especially the stickies & FAQs...and all the pictures of sedans done up.

Good luck - hope you get what you're looking for, and welcome to the family
