Looking to buy g35 coupe. New to forums, looking for advice

Hi Everyone,

I am new to Infiniti forums. I have been a bmw owner for many years but got tired of making monthly payments, price depreciation and high maintenance costs. I've been looking around for something sporty, manual transmission, luxury, reliable, and not too pricy at the same time so I could buy it with cash. My choice so far is infinity g35 coupe. My budget is up to $15 K.

Please advice:

- What I should be looking into? Which configuration, options, year would you advice?
- What are the most common issues with this cars? When I am buying, what should I check?
- Any other buying advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

There is a lot of info on this forum if you search for it. If you can afford it, get an 06 or newer because of the better interior and headlights. If you get a manual trans check for the common engine oil consumption problem.

05 or later if you want better performance and the 06/07's had many revisions from the ealier models. The Oil Consumption issue and maybe the synchros in the transmission are the only major/expensive problems I can think of. There's a stickied thread on here somewhere that lists all the TSB's from the manfacturer, those will tell you possible issues that certain models may have.

Thank you for your input. I will be narrowing my choice to 06/07's now.

Wondering, is there anyway to check/prevent the oil consumption issue. Last thing I would want is to invest $15K and end up with this issue. Are there certain years/models that I should avoid?

Also, which mods/OEM packages would you recommend to look for (to get it with the car already)

Thank you!

The cars with the rev-up engine (298hp/262tq) were most commonly susceptible to the OC issue, although some nonrev-ups have it as well. The link below contains a listing of which packages were offered for the different years and what they consist of.

Check All the functions of the car out. Check to make sure the windows roll up and down reliably, the locks work reliably, that the 3rd brake light works, check the brakes for wear since these cars eat braes fairly rapidly, and obviously look for any accident history/salvage title. I have an 03' that I'm currently selling and it has had several of the known issues with these cars crop up. Search the forums though because many issues with these cars can be fixed cheaply if you do a little research.

03 and 04 has alot of issues. I have an 05 and Don't have any issues the past models had. Also i recommend the 07 over the 06, just more very minor issues was addressed with the 07. but still not that big of a deal if you get an 06.
