buying a 2004 G35 but possible odometer rollback...HELP!
I'm a very soon to be a 2004 G35 owner, but wanted to see if anybody could help me...the car has only 33k miles on it and for a 8, 9 year old car, I just feel very suspect about it. The seller told me that he only drove it on the weekends, but even with that, something just doesn't add up.

Altima guy is right. Carfax, Autocheck, and visual inspections are your best bet. If you pull the Carfax and it really is a one owner car, the weekend driving does actually add up. A lot of people (those with more money than me) have second or third cars that they really only use for weekend driving.
If we assume an annual driving mileage for the average American to be 15,000 - which is on the higher end... Here's some math: (15,000 miles per / 365 days per year = 41.09 miles per day) x (52 weeks per year x 2 weekend days per week x 8 years = 832 weekend driving days) = 34,186 total miles if only driven on weekends.

ehhhh.. we just sold our 9 year old bmw with 38k miles.. no it's not IMPOSSIBLE..
brakes would be a bad indicator.. 03-04 brakes last 20k to 30k anyways...
check the tires.. are they the original Good Years.. check the date on them... i know he could've switched tires/wheels.. but OEM tires lasted me about 50-60k (SEDAN tires)...

Is it a Coupe? I ask because I have found alot of really low mileage 1st Gen coupes on Auto-Trader. I think most of them belong to retired types. I agree that you should be able to look at the car and get an idea of how much it was driven. I would be more suspicious of someone advertising a Sedan with low miles than a coupe as sedans are work horses and rarely a 'weekend' car. Also, check the dealer service history. If the 30k service was done recently (last year or so?), I would be less suspicious. It would be nice find if the miles were really that low....

Yes it is a coupe socket and altima3.5 I would love to post pics but I don't know how to lol I actually just came back from checking out the car which was 2 he's away and I'm not going to lie, it does look valid for 33k miles. Just one thing bothered me was that the clutch was very hard to press in and when the clutch disengages and the engine engages its very catchy, like it grabs really quick , would that signal anything? Or is that me just used to a sedan stick-shift? The clutch feels new and good to me...is it because its a sports car which is a little diff from a sedan?

Maybe it was just different? I would read some online reviews of the 1st gen G and see what the pros said about the clutch. I seem to recall that this was a common complaint on the first gens (sedan and coupe). It may be that the car just needs a new clutch. Definitely not a deal breaker.

It is very possible to have a 9 even 10 year old car with less than 50k miles on it. Like some of the posts above some could be old retiree's and others could have been lease cars before being sold to the public (not really a bad thing because leases' have driving restrictions, my current G35 6MT Aero Coupe was a lease). As for odometer rollback, that has become basically impossible after cars started going digital so I wouldnt worry about it. But definitely check the CarFAX and if its a younger gent see if its stock. If it has any high end after market upgrades it could have been a track car which means it would have been driven hard. But yes, 33k miles is not unheard of.

In February I sold my 03 coupe with 57,000 miles and yes I daily drove the car to work 6 miles a day and I was the second owner, there are some instances where people just dont drive there cars enough. Definatly Carfax the car, mine was accident free but had a service record from dealers only which I had with the vehicle.

Well thank you guys! I did buy the car, paid the car cash so I don't have to worry about payments or anything, the is gorgeous, and feels like it has 33k miles, but when I brought the car back home after picking it up, which was a 3 hr drive, thanks to DC's traffic, the SES light came on also with the VDC and SLIP light. My heart sunk! The car suddenly turned off after the RPM's dropped really low. So I turned back on and the car wouldn't drive. I pushed the gas pedal all the way down but no response. The RPM's went up to about 2500 and the car hardly, barely went forward...any ideas, I can't believe this happening and I'm now starting to hate the car, can't even stand the sight of it...What do you guys think?
