2003 Sedan, 95,250 miles, $9295, Cali - what price should I push for?
Hey guys,
Have been lurking here for the past week while I've been looking at G35s. Great community here, learned a lot already so thank you in advance.
Looking at a G35 Sedan in Los Angeles...per the subject line I was curious what kind of price I should be gunning for with this car.
It has a clean Carfax AND Autocheck, clean title, well kept by one owner who was leasing it for the first part of it's life and then bought it and a few years later resold it to the dealer where I'm getting it. I'm going to take it from the independent dealer that has it and to the Infiniti dealer so they can give it a once over for $140.
Haven't seen it yet, but want to move fast if I like it and have been peppering the seller with questions in advance. Seller says everything is working fine (incl. all electronics and 6 disk CD player - but I will obviously check everything when I see it).
Details:
2003 Infinity G35 Sedan, 95,250 miles
- Bose Sound
- Automatic
- Brakes last done at 85,000 miles
- Leather, power seats, heated seats, moon roof, all very clean inside and out
I'm in CA so there's the 9% sales tax plus another $150-200 for transfer, smog, dock, etc.
Edmunds has referenced for private party $7,400 and dealer $8,700. KBB has it private party $8,700 and dealer $10,500 (but that's excellent condition, there's not any good condition references).
I'd love to get it off the lot for $8,500 all in but not sure that's possible with CA taxes (that would put the retail at like $7,700 or a bit more). What would be a great deal I could be super happy about and what is the max I should be comfortable paying?
Thank you - if I can answer any other questions, more than happy to!

The 1st gen G is a great used car value for under 10k. I would enjoy your purchase and not spend too much time dwelling on if you could have saved 500-600 dollars.
It sounds like you found one in great shape.

Yeah, I'm actually really enjoying it. Not tripping about the minor savings I was gunning for, in the long run it's a solid car and I'm happy.
Only thing is low speed brake squeal? Is this a thing? Mechanic said the pads were fine with 50% left in the front (he replaced the back ones though) and mechanically all is good, yet it really squeaks at low speeds (pulling out of parking, etc.). Is it just really hard factory pads? I read I could buy some aftermarket pads that would fix the issue.

The 1st gen cars were a little hard on the brake pads. In fact, there was a Technical Service Bulletin (and even a lawsuit I believe) created to address the problem. Essentially, Infiniti used a really soft compound for the pad itself, which caused it to wear pre-maturely. The good news is that the 1st gen even to this day has incredible stopping power. I changed over to Centric POSI-Quiet Ceramic pads recently and these are much quieter, produce very little brake dust, less expensive, and I honestly cannot see any difference in braking compared to stock.
