Considering financing a 07-08 G35 Sedan
Looking at 07-08 G35 Sedan Need some input/advice
I'm literally at stage one of this auto consideration, as I just got on the forum but I've been doing some quick scans of some threads. I see mentions of Oil consumption issues, but I didnt seem to pinpoint a specific model and year range associated with it. This would be something I would be financing, so I just want to see what things is there any that are common issues. I'd be looking in the over 50k miles range, so I was wondering if there are tranny issues in these cars.
Additionally, what is a real gas mileage like in this car the sedan, as I'm a bit skeptical about this car because I know its a powerful car and probably doesn't get too great of a mileage ( a sacrifice I might/ might not be willing to make )
On the surface, this addresses all my requirements, 4 doors, power, sporty but luxury, so since I was able to find a few in my price range, I'm now comparing my choices. Thanks for any help!!

I financed an 08 G35s 6mt last November.
I'm getting 16-17 mpg on Shell V power driving city with climate control on auto. The short and slow distances probably bug me more the car but it is what it is.
When I bought it the previous owner drove highway and the center cluster averaged showed an average of 23. I reset mine and it seems to stay in the lower 17's in the cluster readout.
It is heavier than I had originally realized. I love the fact that when I check my fluids, the fluids (including oil) is still there (I've been driving hoopty's my whole life).
It's a great car and I like what they did with the car overall. I knew I'd only be required to drive short distances so the fuel expense doesn't matter to me as much as it may the next person. The expense becomes a reality when you're out enjoying the car though, but in that sense it ain't so bad.
If you've done your research and you like it then I can only assume that as long the previous owner didn't tear up their 30k+ car then you should be good to go. This forum and the internet is full of the answers you have questions to so I'd start there if you're still not sure. The G37's are out there as well but you should make your choice based on what you want, what is available for purchase, and at the price you're willing to pay.

Thanks! I wish I was as knowledgeable about these cars as I am with my potential other option car. I just did a search and I am looking at the chance of being over 60k miles on a 2007 G35 sedan. Are there any known issues of areas of concern going into this car at this mileage?
Im trying to see about the gas mileage, as this will be a daily driven car, so I want to get an idea of possibilities. I'm more just concerned with the dependability and reliability of these cars with higher miles. I'm really not trying to go into a sedan with 80k miles, but that would be the highest I would go.

The 07-08 is ranked by Consumer's Guide as a best buy and has a solid track record for reliability (the best two years for the G per CG)
It seems that 17-18mpg mixed is pretty common on all of the Gs up until 2008. The 7AT introduced in 2009 added ~2mpg realistically, but it looks like few get much better than 20mpg mixed driving. With mostly HWY, your mileage will improve quite a bit into the high 20s.
Note that the 335i with a tune which cranks out almost 400hp will get about 23mpg mixed. I think the VQ struggles with mileage because while the Torque (what moves the car) is decent, you need to get on the car to get it moving....so stop and go driving kills mileage.
Cars like the GTI/335 for instance have gobs of torque down low (for their engine size), so they tend to come off the line with a little less effort. At least this is my observation as I am in a similar situation where I love the G, but have to be realistic about the below average mileage.

I do believe the reliability is present in these cars, but I know that when you get into higher miles, there are possibilities of issues that may arise. Some might be prevented with just good regular services, but I dont know what tends to occur or may have been seen to occur at these mileages. Has there been any experiences in these cars the sedan specifically, with transmission issues in AT? Oil consumption/burning? Engine mount replacement/vibrations being noticed? As it seems, even looking at a used model with between 60-80k miles on it, I may be safe and obtain reliability for years my doing my regular maintenance.
